Interview: The Slacksons - EXAMPLES

The Slacksons are a Bristol UK based 5 piece band, making an eclectic mix of music which weaves in and out of many genres, and taps into the rich legacy of British music. Their influences range from Blur, The Streets & Gorillaz through to Ian Dury and even a little Beck for that Transatlantic edge. EXAMPLES is the fourth single release taken from The Slacksons forthcoming debut album which is due for release in March 2023. The song is a deeply personal song by lead singer Mikey which talks about the struggles between siblings growing up in a religious family, and the choices they each made which lead to conflict & heartache.

Hello. Describe your favorite and least favorite part about being a musician.

My favourite thing about being a musician has to be the adrenaline rush of performing live my worst being a musician is there are so many great musicians out there can be difficult to breakthrough.

Your latest song is 'Examples'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

I was raised in a religious family which made things difficult as I am an atheist. Examples is about me and my brothers growing up and the conflicts between us (see press release).

How do you differ from most other artists?

We differ other artists as we use a few samples and loops to create a nostalgic yet fresh sound. Our live set incorporates this with our drummer Liam triggering the loops etc.

Where are you from and do you have a stable home or do you prefer travelling?

We are all from Bristol and Bath area in UK. Yes I love travelling but have a young family so love my time at home.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Our music is difficult to put in any box as it crosses inn to so many genres, and is far from typical but to put it in one word it would be 'fun'.

How do you nurture your own creativity?

Giving ourselves the time we need to write and create new music. Listening to lots of music new and old and of course noting down thoughts and observations along the way which can inspire lyrics. Writing Musictakes me out of my comfort zone and helps me feel sane.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Would have to be Brightonn band Normanton Street who we are playing alongside on the 11th of February in Bristol. UK at Mr Wolf's, our 1st gig of 2023.

Who's your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?

I would love to collaborate with or the men Hanham Street Band please!!

What are your plans for the future?

WE are releasing our debut album 'Plastic bags for shoes' this Spring so we are really looking froward to that and Of course we want to Make more music, get out and promote it and film lots more music videos.
