This edition of LITM Rock Picks brings to you songs mirroring alienation in the modern world to songs that will transport you to the early 2000s. The list features artists Dan Cooney, Stereo Silence, Hadda Be, and more.
Dan Cooney - THIS FEELING
With a riff reminiscent of the early 2000s starting out the track, ‘THIS FEELING’ by Dan Cooney is a track that will simply not allow you to hit the pause button whenever it plays. The song besides 2000s rock energy also has some punk elements. The song isn’t very paced, and it unfurls delicately without any rush. The instrumentation in the song is layered in a way that the elements don’t overwhelm each other and instead gel together to drive the song. What’s another amazing fact is that the second track on the album, ‘WHO I COULD BE’ was featured on Fuzz 96.1 FM! We say start with this track, and you will find yourself listening to the rest of Cooney’s work the moment the last second of this one plays out.
Stereo Silence - Gimme more
A lush layer of acoustic and electric guitars and drums opening the track, ‘Gimme more’ by Stereo Silence will have you wanting to scream the song from your rooftops. With infectious rhythms, anthemic chorus and verses, this song is fit for large stadium playing. The song has a Brit pop quality to it, owing to the anthemic, stadium-ready melodies. The shifts in the song are magnetic, and the guitar solos are pure brilliance and that alone can have you coming back to it countless times, besides the rest of the song. Gritty, catchy, and something that you simply can’t get out of your head, you need to listen to this one as soon as possible.
Hadda Be - New to the Office
Starting off with a solid bassline, ‘New to the Office’ by Hadda Be is fresh, it is unique, and is a track that you simply cannot resist. In the verses, the electric guitar sparsely comes in, but becomes continuous in the chorus. The way the song moves in phases is just too interesting and will keep you absolutely hooked. Genre wise the song falls within the post-punk scene, which explains the chaotic nature of the track and the way the vocals keep shifting between soft and aggressive. This song should be your go to if you are looking for something different in the post-punk scene.
Tidal Rave - Shiver
With layered synths starting off the track, ‘Shiver’ by Tidal Rave will take turns you will not see coming. The synths almost instantly get layered with an urgent guitar riff, and you will notice that the urgency lasts throughout the song. The track brings the good old punk rock elements and also synthpop elements, creating a sort of hybridity that works brilliantly. This isn’t a track that you can sit still and listen to, because this will have you headbanging into the air. Chaotic in the best possible way, this song will be a new favourite of yours if you are into the punk rock genre.
Fourmarks - Short The Pound
Starting off with a super catchy rhythm, ‘Short The Pound’ by Fourmarks mirrors the modern life dynamics in the world at large, making the song a very interesting listen. The song critiques the alienation, the distance that plagues the world currently, which is a big paradox we’re technologically we are so connected as a species. The instrumentation makes use of electronic beats, intensive guitar riffs, and chaotic drum patterns to project the chaotic nature of the themes in the song. The music video for the track is something definitely worth checking out, as the song is portrayed quite interestingly through the characters.
