‘Amplified’ is the latest track from Ideomotor who (if you didn't know already) are a Finnish indie-electro band whose polished production resonates with a synth-heavy sound and eerie vocals, sprinkled with moodily atmospheric guitar/keyboard elements that are oddly soothing and mesmerising to the ear. This band show love for Depeche Mode and The Cure and, as this is something we have in common, I was pleased to make time to listen to this song over and over.
Laying the foundation of what to expect throughout, ‘Amplified’’s intro (which wouldn't be out of place in Breathless, because, well, it is from Breathless) is explicit – "The greatest ambition in life is to become immortal and then die" – as it continually builds into a truly euphoric yet haunting track that exudes character and drama. Every element serves a purpose; there is zero fat on ‘Amplified’ – each note and chord complements the other, and none of the instruments interfere with each other, instead only serving to highlight and influence each passing progression throughout the rhythm of the tune.
In closing, ‘Amplified’ is a really cool track that is well mixed and highly organised, yet it remains fun to listen to. I'll definitely have Ideomotor's EP on my playlist through the upcoming weeks and months.
