Interview: Doc Breezus - Bounce Back

Doc Breezus has released his latest track, which he has titled 'Bounce Back'. This song is basically about coming back from a setback, as he said earlier. Minor setbacks for major comebacks. Eminem was one of Doc Breezus first favorite rappers, but he also used to listen to a lot of Tech N9ne, Drake, Lil Wayne, and the like when he was younger. Doc Breezus recorded his parts of the song in his bedroom/studio, and he believe Kenny did his part somewhere else. As for the production, Doc Breezus found this beat by Curtains on Youtube.

Kamil) Hey Doc Breezus, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

I’ve been into music for a lot of my life actually. From 6th grade to 11th grade I played trombone for my school bands, and I also took some guitar lessons in between. I got into making my own music during my first year of college when I wasn’t playing sports anymore, so I wanted something to fill my time when I wasn’t working or doing homework, and music just made sense to me.

Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?

Well rap-wise, Eminem was one of my first favorite rappers. I also admire Kanye West not only for his music, but for his unmatched work ethic. I also listened to a lot of Drake, Tech N9ne and Lil Wayne in my teens, just to name a few artists.

Your latest track is 'Bounce Back'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

I started writing it last year (2021). During that time, I had just gotten out of a Ponzi scheme after losing almost all of my savings. Also last year, my car got totaled so I went back to bumming rides and taking public transportation. I was also dropping music less consistently, so my stats weren’t like I wanted them to be.

Which skills have you gained that help you perform effectively as a musician?

Definitely learning how to produce, write music, and simple recording/mixing skills have gotten me to where I am today.

What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?

Of course I love rap/hip hop. I also love metal, EDM, and R&B. I’ve always liked country music, but I don’t really listen to country radio anymore.

Describe your creative process when you write new music.

Basically, I just open my laptop and start working. Whether I’m making a new beat or trying to make a new song. I also make a point to look for new creative ways to inspire myself.

What are your long term goals?

I want to really make a name for myself. I don’t know what else to say really.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

Being able to not only create sound, but to create energy and emotion from something intangible. To me, that’s awesome.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I think that while the music business is hella saturated with new artists, I gotta say it’s easier to get into it now than ever before with the internet.

What are your plans for the future?

Well I have my first show coming up soon, and I’m working on an NFT concept right now.
