Interview: BIAS - Love will tear us apart

Italian producer BIAS pays tribute to the Manchester group with a reworking of their most famous and poignant song, in an entirely new and reworked version of the original. The vocals are by Lorenzo Montaxx Montanari, former vocalist of the band Light This Night, who gives the song a completely personal and passionate interpretation that lives up to expectations. 'Love will tear us apart', produced and engineered by BIAS, mixed and mastered by Michele Suzzi, is released on all digital platforms accompanied by a lyric video on YouTube. 'Love will tear us apart' is a heartbreaking and lacerating song, like an open wound.

Hey BIAS, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

Hi, the pleasure is mine. I inherited the passion for music from my father, a guitarist in a band. He took my first piano lessons when I was 6 years old, and since then I have never stopped playing.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I am very fond of movies. I could never live without music and movies.

Your latest song is 'Love will tear us apart'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

I wrote the first version of the song using the original Ian Curtis vocal track that I had downloaded from a site on the Internet (you can find this version on my YouTube channel). Then later I got to know Lorenzo and hearing him sing I thought he could give the song that touch of originality that I was really looking for, while still maintaining the original pathos. I proposed it to him and he accepted the collaboration. I also take advantage of this interview to thank Michele Suzzi, who mixed and mastered the song, managing to give the sound that depth I was looking for. It was great to collaborate with these people.

Can you reveal the recipe for a musical hit?

I don't know if there is a recipe for success. Or at least I don't know it 😅

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

I think I am a very curious person in general, in life I mean. This certainly helps me grow as an artist, exploring new musical territories each time thus challenging myself.

What inspires you as an artist? Could it be the sea, the weather or something else?

It can really be anything. A sound, a phrase, a situation that happens to me, a scene from a movie, a landscape, etc. Each of my songs has a particular genesis, I don't have a systematic way of writing my songs. In fact, I would say that my songs are absolutely born by chance.

How do you spend your free time? What makes you feel relaxed?

Definitely playing music. I like many things to tell the truth but music is the most important thing in my life.

Do you have a mentor or coach?

The BIAS project is absolutely independent and self-produced. I take care of everything, from the music part to graphics, videos, and promotion. It is very challenging but it gives me full freedom to express myself exactly as I want. In the past I happened to work with record labels and industry professionals, but when various people collaborate, each with their own ideas and vision for the project, it is not always easy to find a working and artistic harmony.

Do you think it's easy to become established in the music world, or is it difficult?

I am not interested in establishing myself in the music world. It's an ambition I had more in the past, but today I put aside all expectations and do music more loosely, simply out of pure passion. In any case, I think it is difficult to establish oneself in any field. We live in a time when everything seems easy, thanks in part to technology, but the reality is much more complex and ultra-competitive.

What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next five to 10 years?

The goal is to be happy. And I strive every day to be so.
