Interview: Alice June - Flow

Alice June is an Italian singer songwriter who loves writing and singing in English. Raised in a little town in the north of Italy, she started playing roles in musicals in local theatres until she moved to Milan where she extended her singing activities and musical experiences on the main stages of the city and started to work with professionals. Her worldwide frequent travels, freedom, love and people stories give her the inspirations for the song lyrics while the Uk indie pop-rock genre of groups like Florence and the Machine, has a strong influence on her sounds.

Hello Alice June. Do you like living in Italy? Can you recommend this country to people from Asia for example?

Hi! I really like Italy and its history, art and landscapes, so yes I recommend it.

How do you structure your day?

I actually try to schedule the day in a way where music is always present. I really like to exercise every day if possible so I try to structure all the other activities to be able to reserve enough time to music.

Your latest song is 'Flow'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

Nothing unusual I would say. Flow was born while thinking to those moments when we are stuck in a situation and don’t know how to go on.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

I sing everywhere and I sing what I’m listening the most in that period. Now for example I have a song of the Lost Frenquecies always in my mind.

What is the biggest mistake you have made within your career to this point?

Probably.. I waited too much time before releasing my second single. I wanted everything perfect for the launch and in this way I waited too much. Anyway the outcome then was great :)

Can you tell us where you get inspiration for your songs?

Everywhere and from everybody. There is not a specific place for writing down lyrics or for recording a melody.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

Traveling and meeting new people.

Do you have a dream person with whom you would like to work?

Florence and the machine, but that’s a big dream :)

As an artist, what sets you apart from others?

I try to create a connection with my public through lyrics and sounds and I believe that this is something perceptible that fans like and appreciate.

What are your plans for the future?

I would like to set up more live shows cause I really love to perform and connect with the public.
