Interview: Monroe Moon - New Utopia

Monroe Moon was created because, Theo met Bunny in Grand Rapids, MI in March 2010. He flew back to England the next day and sold his home and all his belongings, flew himself and Bunny to NYC to elope the first of that June. 10 years later, silently, fireside, his heart asked hers to make music and her heart said, "Yes." Warren and Theo are brothers and this single is a natural collaboration that came out of a long overdue visit.

Hello Monroe Moon. What is life like in United States? Would you change this country for another?

Like all places around the world, it is both beautiful and ugly. We are happily rooted here with our family, we invest in our local economy and believe in building the community we are in.

What made you take up music?

One night in front of a winter fire, Theo's heart asked Bunny's heart, without words, to make music, and she said, "Yes."

Your latest track is 'New Utopia'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

New Utopia was an instantaneous and natural collaboration with Theo's brother during a long overdue visit from England.

What is the biggest mistake you have made within your career to this point?

Allowing the discomfort felt when self promoting to keep us from promoting ourselves more.

How do you spend your time?

We spend our time consciously creating and building a life worth living. Counting the breaths we take in appreciation of the beautiful and mundane. As we mentioned before, we are physically focused and proud of where we are. We hobby homestead and work hard to live in harmony with the nature around us. Because of our firm roots, we dream big and let our music and ideas reach out across the world.

What are you most proud of?

We are most proud of simply allowing ourselves the joy and challenge of making music without pretense, as a couple.

What advice do you have for beginning artists?

Do what you love, for the love of it, and never second guess it.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

We continually work and collaborate with new people and keep ourselves open to the flavors and nuances each individual brings with them. We also don't allow ourselves to slow down. We are constantly creating and playing around.

Do you think that technology is improving lives?

That's a trick question! Like everything it has it's good and bad. That said, I don't want to see humans merge with machines before we figure out how just to be humans.

What memorable responses have you had to your work?

Wayne Coyne once commented on an instagram post of ours with 8 hearts! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

But I love the silence we get when showing family members a new song while they search for the right words, most. ;)
