Review: Bostock - Unplugged

Bostock is a Dj and producer born in Southampton and currently based in London. He has been exploring the Leftfield of electronic music since 2020, the year in which he had his debut with the single “Starlite”. Ranging from emotional deep house to contagious nu-ambient techno, Bostock’s music retains traces of the UK Bass sound.

Bostock roots are deeply connected with nightclubs and electronic music. The dance floor is his habitat whether he’s playing at small intimate clubs or in the famed Isle of Wight Festival. He imprints a multi-genre high energy on his performances across London venues and that’s exactly what we can find on the three tracks of “Unplugged”. As we go deep into the EP, we see ourselves evolved in a mix of tribal-trancey-acid that pushes us into a mind trip yet full of body movement. “Initialize” starts with its mysterious and elegant groove and quickly calls you for a dance. Bostock's attention to detail becomes noticeable right from this moment.

Thumbs up to the hypnotic voice loop that discreetly emerges midway through the track. “Accelerated Expansion” goes further in the rhythm and tribal feeling. Pure energy, repetitive minimalism that clings to our body and shakes it in a contagious way. “Residual Self Image”, my favourite track, contains in itself multiple influences and a very interesting twist from 4:20 onwards, when we are surprised by the entry of a bass line that produces powerful effects on our hips. There's everything here: trance, tribal, acid. There couldn't be a better way to end the EP!
