LITM Rock Picks this week features the works of artists who aren’t afraid to push the bounds and test the range of styles and genres they can dabble in with their music. Explore the talents of SANSOM, Harry Stafford and Marco Butcher, The Margaret Hooligans, about-faces and Vonnegut Hardware!

SANSOM - Sandy

SANSOM brings us a moody and atmospheric masterpiece with his latest work “Sandy”. This song is a bit of a slow burn that culminates in a cathartic and satisfying climax by the end of it’s playtime. Opening with a steadily staccato-picked guitar and SANSOM powerful vocals this song builds a sense of anticipation whilst immersing you in the soundscape slowly with the occasional fill of booming drums, this song kicks into high gear right around the halfway mark and changes its dynamic in a way that injects energy into the ambience. I loved listening to this track and so will you!

Harry Stafford and Marco Butcher - Rules of the House

Harry Stafford and Marco Butcher come together to craft an interesting and groovy track that is brimming with tone and attitude with their latest collaborative piece “Rules of the House”. This song keeps you in familiar territory through its runtime with the repeated lyrics and similar cadence of the vocals giving this song a somewhat progressive sound. This song breaks sonic frontiers with its stylings as despite not bringing complexity in its arrangements these artists do a wonderful job keeping you engaged through this track playtime without letting your attention wander. I recommend checking out this song and its accompanying video for an audio-visual treat like no other!

The Margaret Hooligans - Our Museum of Failure

The Margaret Hooligans are back with their wonderfully whimsical sound and amazingly technical musicianship on their latest track “Our Museum of Failure”. While some of their previous works such as “My Dog Ringo” or “What Kind of Donut Are You?” fully leaned into and embraced these artists' chaotic and wacky side this track plays it a lot more straight edge with a significantly more earnest songwriting performance. The guitars are unrelenting and have a wonderful growl and the vocals have an allure to them that makes it impossible to keep your ears off. The Margaret Hooligans have been consistently one of the best musical outfits I’ve ever heard and you are missing out if you have not checked them out already!

about-faces - The River

“The River” by about-faces is a revolution of positive alt-rock sounds in motion that will keep you hooked and destroying your replay button. This song has an ambience that is full-bodied with not a single element in the auditory range going to waste with strong and steady drums in the low-end and soulful guitars and vocals on the high end as well as synths and a whole bunch of ambient fills leading to a pleasant and exhilarating listening experience. After your first listen you will be left with an energy and an unending craving to listen to this song all over again!

Vonnegut Hardware - Fantasyland

Vonnegut Hardware has crafted a gorgeous and soulful track with their latest offering “Fantasyland”. Everything about this track screams poise and finesse from its opening seconds with gorgeous guitar melodies and an unforgettable riff that launches you headlong into the energetic meat of this song’s body. This song features masterful songwriting that conveys poignant social commentary decrying our world’s current status quo of misinformation and scams. This song epitomises everything rock music should be about and is a must-listen for any classic/alt-rock fan. So go give “Fantasyland” a listen and add it to your playlists today!
