LITM ROCK PICKS FEATURING ALL THE YOUNG, TOM LEONARD AND MORE!

This edition of LITM Rock Picks brings you songs for the occasion, whether its a self-confidence booster or a breakup anthem, featuring artists on the list- All The Young, Tom Leonard, Boxing Club, Robyn C and Oceans on Orion.

1.All The Young- Something More

‘Something More’ is the perfect feel-good rock anthem to tune into if you’re looking for encouragement or even a good mood-lifter. With its energetic drums and head-bang worthy guitar solos, its one of those songs that brings you on board immediately. The instrumentation is lively and engaging, with each section smoothly flowing into and alongside each other, while the vocal section doesn’t hold back with the powerful chest voice. The lyrics, which are themed around self-awakening and getting out of the comfort zone, are rather hard to come by, especially in this capacity, making for a replay-worthy track.

2. Tom Leonard- What Has Been and What Will Be

This post-rock, feel-good track by Tom Leonard is what might get you through a breakup, with its comforting and ambient block of cushioning, providing for the perfect blanket. The subdued vocals along with the heavy instrumentation provides for a meditative atmosphere, and the arrangement shifts between light and weighted with its guitars increasing the overdrive between sections and towards the end, creating an additional layer of almost calming brown noise that allows the listener to settle even more deeply into the track. The overall arrangement leaves room for partial silences from the instruments, making that section sound a little more intimate. All in all, a great track to check out!

3. Boxing Club- City Boy

This next band taps into the grunge factor with their new single ‘City Boy’. The song is about the weariness of hope, stemming from one’s life experiences, in this case, the personification of the theme- by the city boy himself. The instrumentation bends and sways into the tension created by the melody lines.  The bass is dynamic and draws the listener more and more into the song while the vocals give an equal measure of hard-hitting push back. The bridge builds another solid layer of intensity using a vocal hook line and accompanied by only 2 notes on the guitar, which leads well into the most soulful part of the song.  Overall, a solid performance and a track to not miss!

4. Robyn C- Survive It

Another song on this list about breaking out of the metaphorical confinement room is Robyn C’s ‘Survive It’. It’s a skilful blend of pop, rock and heavy metal grunge. The vocals maintain a velvety texture for the most part, but from time to time break into a well-timed growl. The innocence of the synth intro acts as a great setup for something so unexpected and hard-hitting. The drums unleash the double kick onto the chorus, which echoes the songs’ emotional core while the instrumentation comes in with full power, tapping into that human feeling of breaking out and coming into one’s own.

5. Oceans on Orion ft Dani Sophia- Out of Your Happiness

Another post-breakup therapy song on the list is Oceans on Orion’s Out of Your Happiness. It’s a dynamic ball of chaotic energy with its rawness and powerful instrumentation. The song lies between the alternative and metal genres, with its composition. In an unusual move, the song features sudden scale shifts between segments, almost as if the song is taking you to different places and moods. The riffs between the instruments in the post-chorus and the interludes bring in that dynamic aggression to the track that the genre demands. The vocals shift flawlessly between the verses and the bridge, creating an edgy back and forth. If this kind of genre is your vibe, this is one song you shouldn’t miss.
