From dreamy pop rock to heavy art rock, this edition of LITM Rock Picks brings you unique tracks from artists Pistol Whip The Devil, Agneu, Lyons Lane, Marion Sophia Dyrvik, and Limit State.
1. Pistol Whip The Devil - Hillbilly White Wine
‘Hillbilly White Wine’ combines genres you never thought would work well, but make total sense when fused together—country music and southern rock. Pistol Whip The Devil, a redneck rock group from Vancouver, Canada, promises music just as eccentric as their name. The song title is a reference to homemade moonshine and is a celebration of working-class pride. The gravelly vocal delivery, crunchy rock guitars, and banjo strings all come together to encapsulate the feeling of escapism. ‘Hillbilly White Wine’ by Pistol Whip The Devil is, ultimately, an absolute banger of a song.
2. Agneu - Air and Twigs
‘Air and Twigs’ sounds like a lingering memory in a long-exposure photograph. It would make sense, because New Zealand-based Agneu (Kieran Scott) is both a musician and photographer. The fourth single off his album of the same name, ‘Air and Twigs’ is an atmospheric alternative folk rock song defined by bright guitar riffs and an addictive, grounding bassline. The highlight is definitely the entire ending section, where the instrumentals erupt into a shimmering, dew-drenched haze. All in all, it is a highly visual and nostalgic piece that sounds like waking up to mist-covered leaves glittering in the sunlight! Listen here-
3. Lyons Lane - Don’t Shoot the Messenger
Vintage charm coupled with modern energy? ‘Don’t Shoot The Messenger’ by Lyons Lane hits the perfect mark. A five-piece band hailing from Detroit, this is the first song off their EP You’ll Talk About It!. The song mixes fuzzy guitar riffs with punchy horn sections to create a sound that easily fits into classic rock with modern pop-punk sensibilities. Mark Leo, the vocalist, adds plenty of personality with his raw vocals. The lyrics are all about the unfortunate humor of being the bearer of bad news and hoping for mercy. This is an EP opener that surely makes an impact!
4. Marion Sophia Dyrvik - Daydreamer
‘Daydreamer’ by Marion Sophia Dyrvik really makes you feel like you’re in a dream you’d never want to wake up from. Dyrvik, hailing from Norway, crafted this indie dream-pop song to navigate the nuances of long-distance relationships. The track opens with a steady guitar that immediately sets a relaxed and introspective vibe. Dyrvik’s voice is the absolute highlight—smooth, ethereal, and emotionally expressive. Background layers pitter in alongside her vocals, giving the track its distinctly dreamlike quality, while stacked harmonies emulate the feeling of a full choir. All in all, ‘Daydreamer’ is a beautiful and vulnerable listen.
5. Limit State - Ready or Not
The opening chords of ‘Ready or Not’ by Limit State will jolt you into action. Limit State, a heavy art rock band hailing from Los Angeles, sings about the emotional turbulence of falling in love. The instrumentals of the song, in turn, mirror the message in the lyrics with their intricate work. The distorted guitars make the track feel edgy, the drums feature intricate fills that make it come alive, and the smooth vocals complete the sound. The momentum literally never drops, and Limit State will have you feeling inspired with this one. Check it out here-
