EYAL ERLICH - "ALL IN ALL" (Live)

Eyal Erlich is an experimental musician best known for slow burning guitars, jazzy textures, and a relaxing sound — and on the live rendition of their latest track, “All in All”, they explore this sound to the fullest — keep reading for my thoughts!

The sound of the track, as it starts out, is relaxed, laid back, and chilled out; but let not the gentle-mannered guitars and basses not mislead you. There is a certain melodic dissonance, a tension building in the air just as the guitars come on — and courtesy of Omar Hershman on the electrics, this comes through rather beautifully. The riffing is sublime, peppered with mini-solos throughout the track, laying down the perfect backing to Eyal’s vocals.

Eyal’s vocals are a further highlight of “All in All”, with their smooth, sultry presentation doing wonders to the sound from beginning to end. As the lines dance around the drumming (thanks, Barak), there’s a gentle rising in tension that resolves just at the right times, giving you that “aha!” Moment time and again as the song goes on.

The production on “All in All”, is, in one word, fantastic. There’s a certain warmth to the tone of the guitars and the basses — and the acoustics play supremely well with their deliberate picking and excellent pacing. The basses and drums are superbly phrased as well, with just the right amount of flavor, like that tasteful sprinkle of salt. The mix is wide, immersive, and dynamic — and for a live recording, this track not only does well for a live recording, but as one in general. The energy is well-controlled, and the presentation is smooth, and refined.

All in all, “All in All”, by Eyal Erlich — time and again as I seek the repeat button, I cannot help but be amazed for a moment at the sheer presentation on display here. It’s a track I would come back to, time and again — lit cigar, poured whiskey, all the jazz. Take a listen to the track here!
