Review: Lone Wolf - Sofia Evangelina

First off, I love the girl boss energy emanating from Sofia Evangelina’s latest track “Lone Wolf,” Even in the era of Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, “WAP” and Doja Cat, I will never get tired of hearing a woman empower herself in any way she can.

In Sofia’s case, through the power of music and her breathtaking vocals.

“Lone Wolf” starts rather softly, with a high line of arpeggios on the piano as Sofia uses imagery related to the animal realm (“I’d rather die than give in to a compromised clan,” “Like the moon on the sea,” “Goddamn savage, you’ll see”) which makes the track all the way more primordial and cohesive.

The beats are consistent throughout, as the track presents a very clear pop structure composed of: verse, pre-chorus, chorus, repeat, bridge, and final chorus. Very linear and predictable.

The instrumentals reach a climax little by little, exploding in the chorus to subside in the verses. The second part of the song would be identical to the first one if it weren’t for the addition of some vocals layered over each other, adding more texture to the track.

After the second chorus, the bridge signals to us that we’re reaching the end of the track. This section reminds me of “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescent because Sofia sings very softly over sound effects that resemble an ensemble of arcs.

As it often happens in pop tracks, the final chorus explodes on your face with sky-high background vocals, as Sofia calls herself a lone wolf one last time.

This is a very promising start and I can’t wait to hear where the artist is headed next!
