Review: Samatha - VII

Gert Stockmans is a Belgian artist that is active in music photography and also as part of the postrock band A Place In Between. His work under Samatha alias focuses on creating a mood for introspection or relaxation as Samatha is the Sanskrit term for the tranquility of the mind. The first Samatha release was out in 2020 and from that time until now he has released five singles.

I got to know Samatha’s work with "The Forest Calls Me Back Into Her Womb", a track that was released in March this year and that I included on my spotify playlist called Amanita Muscaria: it is still there, so you can see how much I love this song!

“VII” is a wonderful piece of ambient music, with celestial pads, glacy reverbs and bits of piano here and there. It is also a music that suggests a whole lot of images to your mind, with a powerful capacity to go really deep and emotional. It comes to my mind slow motion movements that could be taken from “Inception”, the movie, so you can picture what I am talking about.

“VII” is the first track of “Prayers For Patience”, Samatha’s upcoming debut album, and a glimpse of what we could expect from it. Can’t wait to listen to it!
