Review: Talk In Code - Secret

Emotions and timing don’t often go hand in hand. How many times have you met someone and felt like you wanted to tell them how you feel, but the opportunity just hasn’t presented itself? I can honestly say, it’s happened to me many times. This exact scenario has provided the fuel for Talk In Code’s latest release “Secret”…and, my word, are we glad it did!

Filled with 80s influence and indie-pop realness, ‘Secret’ is the song that we needed at the end of 2020. The track is driven along by beautiful synths, jangly guitars and THE BEST 80s inspired drums I’ve heard in a long time. This, coupled with the modern indie vocals of frontman Chris Stevens, is the recipe for a song that will be hitting playlists and securing radio plays for months to come. Speaking of their new release, Chris had this to say…“The story of the song explores repetitive feelings and emotions towards a special someone with the thought of acting on them but the time is never quite right. Secret is produced in such a way to be reminiscent of 80’s sounding pop whilst keeping a modern feel. As a band we love that big expansive production!”

Hailing from Swindon, Talk In Code recorded ‘Secret’ just 2 weeks before lockdown began at Studio 91 in Newbury (Supergrass, Fickle Friends, Bring Me The Horizon, Amber Run). Throughout the pandemic the band have seen an entire festival season of 15 bookings cancelled, including Minety, Mfor, Daxtonbury, Concert at the Kings, Coleford and a showcase for Club Fandango and Fierce Panda Records. Thankfully, the band are thrilled to have been re-booked for 2021 in all of these lineups. Check them out at a festival/venue near you next year, if the music they have released so far is anything to go by, you won’t be disappointed.
