Review: Mr. Tyler Larson - The Thieving Magpie (Arcade Version)

The music producer from Windsor Heights, Iowa, USA, started a new release series this year, called “2021 Arcade Versions Showcase”, on which Larson approaches classical music using arcade sounds and vintage synthesizers in place of the traditional orchestral instruments. “The Thieving Magpie”, by Gioacchino Rossini, is an opera in two acts that premiered in 1817 and it is the third song of the Arcade Versions project. You will recognize it as soon as you hear the first chords, this is the overture part.

If you are a fan of vintage electronica, psychedelia and good humour: this is for you. If this kind of mood doesn’t touch you at all, you don't know what you are missing. Electronic paraphernalia, game soundtracks by the late Zx Spectrum and a very rich color palette are some of the elements that come to mind when listening to this crazy-magnificent piece of work.

Mr. Tyler Larson will release a new ‘Arcade Version’ single every six weeks until the end of October. Before “The Thieving Magpie”, he released “The Can Can” (original by Jacques Offenbach) and “In The Hall OF The Mountain King” (by Edvard Grieg), so stay tuned and don’t miss the next adventures of this particular electronic project!
