Review: Missing Nin - Post Cringe

Missing Nin is a rapper and producer based in Brisbane, Australia. His first productions were released in 2017 and the EP “Post Cringe Era”, released last October 15th, marks an evolution in the artist's approach to music as a whole.

“After taking a break from music for a bit and reassessing the project entirely, my music feels a lot more genuine, enjoyable and far less cringe worthy – hence the title of the EP”, he explains.

“Post Cringe Era” consists of five tracks, which work as one, in a sound piece that you have to listen to at once. The sound experience begins with "Something Special (Intro)", a calling card that sets the bar high: jazz samples mingle with a slurred rhythmic cadence and dissonant experimentalisms.

"Bish Comma Bad" brings the hip hop universe, rap, but always in an exploratory tone. "Spaz Out", my favorite track, starts with a cutting synthesizer that is present from beginning to end and it is impossible to remain indifferent to it. "Male Rapper Energy" boosts the bpms and takes us to a dance floor that could be located somewhere in the UK back in the 90’s. "Thinkin" ends the EP with clipped rhythms, heavy fat bass and squeaky vocals.

Listening to “Post Cringe Era” is to enter an intense and challenging sound experience, which distinguishes itself from most electronic urban music you hear nowadays.
