A quick scroll through Georgie’s social media makes it clear that his influences lay firmly with the musical greats from the 60s & 70s. There is a plethora of Beatles haircuts, groovy fonts, and photography that’s reminiscent of old Kodak films. It sets you up perfectly for the trip back in time that he takes you on with his new single, Never Be That Age Again.

The track begins with a glorious AM radio feel, ripe with reverb and beautifully constructed piano chords. The verses are dark and moody, followed by the track lifting to an almost Barry Manilow esque pre-chorus and chorus - which is no bad thing. It’s pure pop heaven. Then, out of the blue,  Georgie delivers a spoken-word outro that could easily have been featured at the end of a 1970s  Beatles track. Magnificent.

Georgie Weston really has brought together all the right elements of the best musical genres and created something special. It’s very easy to get this genre wrong and end up classified as a replica or cover artist, but this is definitely not the case with Weston. The subject matter of his songwriting pulls him into the 21st century while still maintaining authenticity. I hope there is an  EP or album on the way…and even better, I hope it’s on vinyl!
