Review: M. Cross Dougherty - Reveries

Ladies and gentlemen, here’s Mark Dougherty second single released this year. The North Carolina multi-instrumentalist and producer once again presents us with outstanding music, this time with the single "Reveries".

Last September when I posted the review of the single "Fuse" on this same webpage, I referred to M. Cross Dougherty's music as something celestial and angelic. Now when I listen to "Reveries" I am taken to another state of mind, where density and dramatic charge reign. The way of writing contains of course Dougherty's trademark, but in fact the naivety of "Fuse" gives way to a sweeping melancholic depth.

We are now in a different dimension dear fellow music lovers. "Reveries" touches us at different sensory points, and that difference is to be commended. Dougherty remains faithful to his own artistic language but it is so rewarding to witness this versatility. Ambient electronic music, bold, demanding and contagious, which consolidates the career of the American musician. Something that whets my appetite even more for a possible album to come!
