Review: Lump200 - Kryptomarch

René Desalmand is the man behind Lump200 alias. You probably have heard about some of his releases on Mental Groove in the early 2000’s (does “Better Eat Strawberries” ring a bell?). He also released under the alias Aredee on labels like Platinum Projects (sub- Mo’Wax) and Chronox Music before starting Lump200. Desalmand studied jazz saxophone and has been involved in radio plays, transmedial features and several interdisciplinary works.

As Lump200, he released four albums and the recent single “Kryptomarch” will be included in the upcoming Isles Of You, expected to be released in the Spring of 2023. More than just an album, Isles Of You is a project that also includes an app. It intends to be an open and inclusive platform and this is how it is explained in the press release that got into my hands: every project starts with a piece of time (image and sound matrix) on which users can easily record and publish their own audio contributions, voice, music, whatever sounds. All published takes can be arranged and edited on the matrix - a variety of versions can co-exist and be shared as widgets. A beta version of islesofyou will be introduced with the 2nd single in February 2023.

To listen to “Kryptomarch” is to let us get blended on jazz and avant-garde electronica. The track doesn’t sound similar to anything I’ve heard and it is incredible the forward thinking that you see in the artistic creation but also the simplicity. So, do not expect inaccessible, thick music. Elegance prevails, the production reveals wisdom and a huge musical culture. Desalmand was in charge of bass clarinet, bass and production. He invited Els Vandeweyer to take over the vibraphone. "Kryptomarch" is an excellent teaser, thus increasing the interest of the upcoming album!Beach Ghosts is an intense experience, with a strong narrative and a peculiar artistic vision.Beach Ghosts is an intense experience, with a strong narrative and a peculiar artistic vision.
