Interview: Stefan Dando - Loser Anatomy

'Loser Anatomy' is the second release by Stefan Dando, produced by Andre Mesa at 121 Studios. It's an indie Pop/Rock single about being rejected and the song has a bit of a curse around it. At every stage of creating the song, he was rejected by someone he really liked and admired. So that's a rejection that spurred him to write it, when he went to record it, when he had it mastered, when he had the artwork made and when he announced it. The only reason he hasn't been rejected by someone on release is because he didn't put himself in a situation to be.

Kamil) Hey Stefan Dando, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

Hey man, great to talk to you too! Weirdly it was Microsoft Encarta 1999. While browsing it like the nerd I am, little me stumbled across the article on Little Richard and there was a little clip. I forget what the song was I think it was Tutti Frutti? Either way, I loved it and was hooked from then on.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

There are so many artists I'd love to collaborate with. Probably James from Deaf Havana or Dallas Green though. I feel like we could write a cool song. Or maybe something totally from left field like Drake or something. You know do something totally different.

Your latest song is 'Loser Anatomy'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

Well the song is about rejection and at every stage of the production and release I got rejected. And I mean every stage. Writing, recording, production, mastering artwork commission and announcement all had a rough rejection follow shortly after.

What are you focussing on right now?

I'm actually back in the studio, I just really want to put out more songs honestly.

What are you most proud of?

Musically? That I had the courage to pursue a solo career at all. I had severe social anxiety growing up. In general? I'm actually a third Dan in Shotokan Karate.

What is the biggest challenge of being an artist?

Money. EVERYTHING costs the artist. At this early stage it feels like a money black hole.

How do you structure your day?

I don't, every day is different. It's what I love about my job and about being a musician. You never get bored. I do try to structure my week loosely around getting three gym sessions in though.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I'm a bit of a geek. I like reading comic books and manga, playing video games ect. It's hard to find as much time to engage in that stuff these days though. I'm so far behind what's current.
