Interview: Insane Blue - Down with the Miracles

Philippe and Paul first came together as Insane Blue just as the ‘90s got started, and started to take serious steps in ‘96 while at university. From then until 2003, the two of them provided the vocals and guitar and welcomed a plethora of guest artists to play alongside them. When they decided it was time to step back into the Insane Blue realm, they believed that was the way to move forward once more. Given that Insane Blue decided to regroup in 2020, they have had unexpected hurdles to overcome due to the current pandemic. But have done so with the support of several artists.

Hi Insane Blue. Nice to be able to interview you. How is life in Nantes for you? Would you recommend the city for people from outside France?

Life in Nantes and Lisbon is calm and sweet. Great place to be inspired, so yes, whatever you do just pass and enjoy.

Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?

The national, RadioHead, Pink Floyd, U2 - they all marked a generation, they all brought something new to music.

Your latest track is 'Down with the Miracles'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

We normally construct our song from the sound to the lyrics... this time it was the opposite way around... We had the lyric in mind and a chorus stucked in our mind. We construct it from there.

How can you describe the music you make?

Nostalgic, sometimes depressive/dark but quite linked to a 90's style. We like a sound that slowly brings new things to the music.

Do you have common hobbies beyond music?

Well music takes us a lot of time... but we travel a lot and try to enjoy life as its most.

What got you started in the music industry?

Passion for music, passion to create and express our deepest feelings.

What is the biggest decision you’ve had to make?

Becoming monogamous ?! (hehe kidding)

What are your achievements to the moment?

We are quite happy with the outreach of our album 'a state of mental confusion'

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

A lot... mostly for the good as it allows musicians to be heard even when not well connected to the music industry. But also a lot of fake... so there are also downs.

What are your plans for the future?

We go day by day... no expectations... only enjoying the moment.
