Interview: Eric Cohen - A.M.E.N.

Eric Cohen is a Missouri-based hip hop artist whose musical influences include Lecrae, Toby Mac, We Are Messengers and Andy Mineo. He draws on his life experiences and spiritual inspiration to bring a message of hope, peace and power to people from all belief systems and walks of life. Eric has a history with darkness. From a chaotic childhood of poverty and addiction, to his own experiences with sin and vice. It's not been an easy road, but thank God He never gave up on him. Even after accepting Christ and getting clean, Eric continued to struggle with the temptations and pain of this world.

Kamil) Hey Eric Cohen, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

I've loved music for as long as i can recall. I did not have musical ability until around 3 years ago. In the midst of a deep valley the Lord gave me the gift to rap.

How do you balance your time in the studio with other commitments such as a part-time job, family, admin?

I have to be very cautious with this. It is a constant check to make sure i am taking the necessary time with the people and things that i need to be.

Your latest song is 'A.M.E.N.'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

I was able to write this song in just a couple days. It seemed to supernaturally flow from me.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

There is hope. Whatever your circumstances may be, dont give up. We do not have to stay stuck in the comfort of misery.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

I would be lacking in a way to fully express myself. I feel without the outlet of music i would probably still be taking the psych meds i had to take most of my life.

How do you know when a work is finished?

When everything is wrote down and in place, i go back through the work i have been spending time on. As i do this i pray for understanding in anything that needs to be changed. If i dont see anything i dont change anything and consider it done.

Can you write what was your best performance in your career? How do you remember it?

I recently performed at an online venue called Reds room entertainment. at this performance i did a cover of a worship song called waymaker. It wasa exciting to share that with the world.

Do you have a mentor or coach?

Yes, his name is Ryan Upton

Who is your favourite musician?

Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn, hard decision.

What are your plans for the future?

To walk in the will of God, to be obedient to what He is asking me to do.
