Interview: Animate - The Colour Of A New Day

Animate are Luigi and Filippo. Luigi plays guitar and Fillipo plays the bass. They are long-time friends. Their main influences are rock from the 80's and 90's. 'The Colour Of A New Day' was recorded in Italy at Luigi's home studio, CS Scattered Studio. In the recording, it involved Luigi and a friend, Marco, who plays the electric solo in the song. It was inspired by the music of Lou Reed, Van Morrison and Paul Simon. The song is a collage of emotions, visions and feelings.

Kamil) Hey Animate, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

Hi, Kamil thanks! Since I was 14 years old I had this passion for music. I loved the sound of the guitar and I took lessons for a couple of months.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I would like to collaborate with a female singer, I think Animate's music fits well with a female voice.

Your latest song is 'The Colour Of A New Day'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

The lyrics were written 4 or 5 years ago I can't remember exactly when. I liked those words from the beginning but I was working on something else so I put aside the lyrics and a couple of years ago I finally wrote the music. The first version is a band version, with drums, the bass guitar and synthesizers, the second version is an acoustic one with a bass guitar and strings and the third and final version is the acoustic one you heard. I love it.

What are you focussing on right now?

Right now I'm writing the lyrics for a new song. And I'm experimenting with new guitar pedals and new sounds. I like the directions the sound is going to.

What are you most proud of?

I'm very proud of the fact that people like the song, really.

What is the biggest challenge of being an artist?

Be honest with yourself. Look inside yourself and then write about what you feel with an open heart. It took years to me to be able to do that. I always say it's like running naked in a crowded street.

How do you structure your day?

Wake up at dawn and then jogging for an hour then other activities and in the afternoon focus on music.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

Of course I like freediving, reading, writing, listen to music and go out with friends.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

I don't sing in the shower but I sing while I'm driving for example. I like to sing U2, Ghost, Rhcp, Waterboys and so on.

What are your plans for the future?

I would like to release another single soon. Let's see what the future has in store for us.
