Interview: Sydney Gordon - Too Close

Sydney Gordon releases ethereal pop-trap single “Too Close”. Sydney Gordon’s third single has just been released on her independent label, Static Impulse Records. The singer songwriter is poised to rapidly elevate her presence as a rising star in the music scene, building on the early momentum from her first two singles earlier this year. “Too Close” features an ethereal pop-trap style track with Sydney’s intimately sung vocals narrating a cat & mouse like dance-chase. Sydney co-wrote “Too Close” in collaboration with Ben Antelis and the track was produced by Mike Cortes. The track was mixed by Tony Maserati and mastered by Dave Kutch.

Kamil) Hey Sydney Gordon, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

Hi! Thank you, you too! I always loved music and once I began writing my own material I knew that was all I wanted to do. I’m grateful to say that my family is very supportive and they definitely push me to follow my goals so they were a big influence as well.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Miley Cyrus! I love her style, music, and attitude.

Your latest song is ‘Too Close’. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

The only unusual thing for me I would say is the production of the track. The sound is definitely different from the rest of my tracks but I think that’s what makes it so special to me. When creating this track it started with just me on my keyboard in my room messing around. When I came into the studio I was a little nervous to show everyone what I came up with because the vibe I imagined was very different from what else we were working on. But everyone loved it!

What are you focussing on right now?

New music! I’m always at my piano playing with something even if I’m not feeling inspired that day. Usually the best things come unexpected so I am always trying to motivate myself.

What are you most proud of?

The release of my music!

What is the biggest challenge of being an artist?

I think one of the biggest challenges for me can be juggling things and staying motivated while I’m focusing on more than one project at a time. It can get frustrating because I’m a perfectionist and I want everything to be perfect! But sometimes the not so perfect thing is what works.

How do you structure your day?

It depends on what I have scheduled for that day but I try to start off every day by going to the gym- it’s a way for me to reduce stress.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I love to stay active so I would say the gym! And doing my makeup and hair haha.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

Haha yes I do! I actually like to do my warm up exercises in the shower.

What are your plans for the future?

NEW MUSIC!! I can’t wait for you guys to hear what I’ve been working on.
