Weaving melodies through the triumphs and tribulations of life, growing up, and relationships, the pair use their electric disco soul to tantalize crowds across the nation. Desperate Electric's high energy live show makes you feel good; their lyrics are playful and honest, exploring themes of both vulnerability and resiliency. What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?

I think to be a great musicians to have to be pretty fearless. That’s something I’m still working on, but I like to think that it’s getting better and better. Our most recent single really speaks to that for me, and I really let loose when writing it.

What is your dream project?

This is a hard one! I don’t know if I can pick just one dream project. I’d love to collaborate with the band Lawrence—they’re my current (and pretty much always) obsession. On the other hand, I feel like I’m living my dream project.

Your latest track is 'Stop Making Noise'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

I came up with the melody on day while I was working on something else, but it was so strange that I couldn’t figure out the chords. Ben came home later and I sang it for him and we worked on the chords for a while, and immediately went and recording the demo. We basically recorded the entire demo in one night, worked on it once or twice more, and then let it sit for about six months. We don’t often do that, but I think it was the best thing for the song.

What makes you angry?

I have a pretty short temper, so if you ask anybody close to me they’ll probably give you a variety of hilarious answers. It can be easy to get caught up in the any of things that make me truly angry—basically everything going on in the world today, but I’ve learned that all you can do is work on being the best version of yourself, and that’s the best way to counteract the anger.

What is the most surprising fact you’ve learnt about yourself?

I learned to play bass a few years ago, which I do full time in our band. I really didn’t see myself as a bass player, and was worried that I’d resent it. I totally fell in love with it, and now I feel naked if I’m not playing!

What do you dislike about your work?

I don’t think there’s really anything I truly dislike about our work—I guess there are more things I dislike about the music industry as a whole. Being a musician definitely can feel like an uphill battle!

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Just a great big thank you for listening to our music and coming to our shows! People connecting with your art is pretty much the best thing ever.

Is the artistic life lonely? What do you do to counteract it?

100% yes. It can be really hard to navigate any semblance of a ‘normal’ life, because we work primarily on the weekends. It can be hard for friends and family to understand, and we often feel crappy about it, because we wind us missing events, and not being available to do the things that people who work during the week get to be a part of. I’m still trying to figure out how to navigate it. I think it’s something all musicians just always struggle with.

What do you think is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen or experienced?

The most beautiful thing I’ve ever experienced is the partnership I have with Ben. Of course any partnership can be trying at times, but having somebody to be so in sync with, and work together to solve problems and create art with is a beautiful thing.

What are your plans for the future?

Desperate Electric is releasing music all summer, capped off with the release of our next album. We have shows coming up all summer long, with some future tour plans as well!
