Interview: Tahjae - Rules

Fort Worth rapper Tahjae Wilson was born on October 16th, 1997. Tahjae grew up old-school; with a stepdad that is 12 years his mother's senior, they instilled a lot of values and principles that Tahjae applies to his life today. At an early age, Tahjae took to the pen and started writing poetry and turned those poems into lyrics, the rest is history. Tahjae decided to put out a mixtape on Soundcloud, which had 100,000 listens in a short amount of time, that alone kept him motivated to keep going. Tahjae formed a group in his sophomore year of high school called “Misguided Generation”, it didn’t last long, but the experience was like no other.

Where were you born?

I was Born October 16th , 1997 in Fort Worth Texas.

What is your music about? What message does it convey?

My Music Is A Reflection Of who I am and sometimes how I'm feeling.
I like so many others , have to deal with the harsh realities of this life and so music is my escape & way of bringing something authentic into this artificial world. I love to challenge myself and create ALL TYPES OF music :
"Im not always sad , so I don't just make sad songs. Sometimes Im Lit & wanna make a club song🤷🏽‍♂️😂 . Sometimes im Happy , Sometimes im down , sometimes I feel like inspiring others. So my music is just an extension of who I am I guess."

Who or what inspires you the most?

My Family and My Life !

What interests/hobbies do you have?

I Love Basketball, Acting , Stand Up Comedy , Archeology & BioChemistry .

When did you start your music career? What made you become interested in music?

My passion for poetry stems way back to 2nd Grade However I never had aspirations to become an artist until my 10th year of grade school. I put my first track out on SoundCloud, and the rest is history .😂

What music genres do you like and why?

I honestly like them all except for the heavy metal 😭. But it's all good to me as long as the song has a good message and the right energy behind it . R&b is my favorite though. If I had to list my top 3 genres it would be R&b, Hip-Hop and Jazz/blues.

Who would you like to collaborate with?

LaRussel , Russ , T-Pain, Drake.

Have you ever given up on music?

No but I've definitely taken a few breaks .😂😂

What’s the most difficult part about being a music artist?

Not being able to just focus on Music! Not having the data to back your artistic brilliance! And not being respected as a person. Once you reach a certain level of success people forget their boundaries. And the politics that are somewhat force on the artist since we have such a big influence.

Do you play any instruments?

Not anymore but used to play Piano and drums.

Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?

Don't Conform!! Stay true to who you are and if you aren't really passionate about making music DONT MAKE IT !!!
And I would say 'don't give up' but if you truly love what it is we do , then you could never give up .

What is the best thing about being a musician?

Having the ability to touch the hearts of millions of people through a song HANDS DOWN! And being able to last generations from something YOU CREATED 🙌🏽❤️‍🔥It's so powerful and so beautiful and people take it for granted and use it to promote death and dishonor. But yea I'd say that's the best part.
