Interview: Bad Indigo - DIY

Tzvika Frosh (the raw men empire; deer frosh) and Nir Leist (kitzu; age is a box) played in different bands in the Tel Aviv indie scene of 2010. They founded DeerJohn, which performed on different stages and at festivals and released a successful single. The pair of musicians are currently releasing a new album under the name Bad Indigo. 4 years ago, the two went down the rabbit hole, took the blue pill, and never looked back. They managed to create an original, intriguing, and fun musical world with endless love for the creative process. "DIY" is their second song the duo has released, and they are very proud of it.

Kamil) Hey Tsvika (Bad Indigo), super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

Tsvika: I always loved music, never dreamed it would be such a big part of my life. I studied art and cinema, and one day I heard Interpol turn on the bright lights album ,it blew me away, it made sense for me that music is the path for my heart. I always wrote songs , so I picked a guitar and started banging on it till things happened.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I am also a yoga teacher so movement is a big part of my life. Also rollerblading and badminton , and if course going to the cinema , I live movies , I saw the whale and aftersun both are perfect.

Your latest song is 'DIY'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

It's kind of the first kid of the album, our first song we felt were going somewhere interesting creatively. For good and bad there are no defined rules in the world of bad indigo, it can go everywhere music wise , and that's how we like it . I just remember playing with this simple guitar riff and singing diy….diy, and started flowing from there. I really enjoyed the melody. That led to the lyrics , an abstract story about the meaning of home.

Can you reveal the recipe for a musical hit?

Well chat gpt , says a hit needs a hook. Keeping it simple , lyrics that people can relate to. We’re on par with some of those things :)

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

Being consistent. I think it's the most important thing in every aspect of creating or doing, being consistent and finding softness, not to become rigid or stagnant.

What inspires you as an artist? Could it be the sea, the weather or something else?

People people inspire me, guess that's why i live youtube so much.

How do you spend your free time? What makes you feel relaxed?

Yoga
breathing
Meditation
Dancing
The ocean
Walking barefoot

Do you have a mentor or coach?

My friends and family are both
Every person you meet can change your life

Do you think it's easy to become established in the music world, or is it difficult?

If it's something that comes true, from the heart then I guess you can call it easy , but nothing is really easy in the sense that one has to make a sacrifice for things that mean something.

What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next five to 10 years?

Lots of hits , or at least one, playing music, growing, great music, enjoying life.
