Interview: Bad Ass Beauty - Me

LaQuinta Prince aka Bad Ass Beauty is a bone crushing, powerhouse R&B vocalist who is also a graduate of Berklee College of Music. With musical influences spanning from Led Zeppelin to Chaka Khan, she is well on her way to turning the rock genre on its ear by blending the two styles in order to push Hard Rock/Soul into the mainstream into its own lane. She has been performing all of her life in miscellaneous bands, professional studio sessions and private party work. She began writing her own material in response to the numerous hardships and disappointments endured from being a strong minded female in a male dominated industry. Sexual harassment, misogyny, imperception, painful love relationships, difficult family dynamics and the like all came together to birth the album “4 Horsemen.”

Hello Bad Ass Beauty. What first got you into music?

It's been ordained from the womb....

What do you think your role is in this world?

I've given up a long time ago trying to save it...lol. now I just want to be a reflection that all things are possible leading by example of my still being in it to win it in spite of obstacle after obstacle. I'm still tha fuck here and ain't goin nowhere!! I'm standing by my principals and no longer going along just to simply get along. I want to show people you should NEVER dim your shine. No matter how they treat u and what they say about you ...and they will say a lot Textbook underdog shit...

Your latest track is 'Me'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

It was created at a pivotal moment in time for me where I was just done taking shit from people. It really is that simple. I was so sick of feeling I had to explain myself and/ or my actions and/or situations found myself in. I was over being talked about and judged when u don't know what I'm really going through or what's happening in my life. I was tired of feeling I had to be in a certain boring ass societal mold that pretty much everyone else was in, in order to go with the program. I reached the point where I was finally able to openly declare u either rock with me or u don't! I am who I am which is more or less a pretty fabulous person flaws and all! Fuck your opinion cus u ain't paying my bills or doing anything to work with me on my hustle and advancement in life anyways. l ive always been on my own. I got Jesus. I'm good. Nothing "unusual" happened per say. Actually for the 1 st time the creative process was a breath of fresh air and relatively easy with a VERY unexpected co writer/co producer Anthony Gemignani, who set it all off by a reconnect DM. The rest was history!

So I guess that was usual...

What is one message you would give to your fans?

LIVE YOUR LIFE. Don't be an asshole and choose love. Don't fuck with nobody who can't respect you, mentally and emotionally support your dreams and goals and aspirations, and have your back through the good and the bad. Move on from people or situations that don't make you happy and don't stimulate your growth and well being.

How do you spend your time?

Depends on the day....

What are you most proud of?

That I’m still here!! I've leveled up spiritually and I finally see things for what they really are. It's breathtaking to have the discernment to truly know what works for you and what doesn't and to be able to say fuck off and mean it when u have to.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Beyonce. That's not even a choice.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

Keeping an open mind and heart to any and everything that comes my way.

Do you think that technology is improving lives?

In some ways of course yes! But how we interact and communicate with each other now is a bit cold and distant. Spending more time buried in your phone than interacting with someone face to face, eye to eye makes the art of true bonding and getting to really know someone obsolete.

What are your plans for the future?

World domination via music and love and acceptance.
