Interview: Aggressive Soccer Moms - Darling

"Aggressive Soccer Moms" is a Lo-Fi Post Punk trio from Sweden. The punk roots are strong but the group is not, by any means, nostalgic. "Quint" will be ASM's seventh album. The debut took place in 2019 with the album "Groucho No. 5". "Darling" is a fast and bright song. The saxophone adds, again, to an extra dimension. The vocals are as aggressive as always and for the first time we can hear a guitar solo in an "ASM" song. "Darling" is the next single release from the upcoming album - "Quint".

Kamil) Hey Aggressive Soccer Moms, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

Music has always been a big part of our lives. But when punk arrived, in 1977, it was as if all the windows were wide opened and the energy and enthusiasm just blew in. We embraced the creative environment that arose and we hold on to it even up to today.

How do you balance your time in the studio with other commitments such as a part-time job, family, admin?

Our day jobs are very flexible. We can control and manage our work hours.

Your latest song is 'Darling'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

When I (Anders) presented the basics of "Darling", the others didn't really understand what I was looking for. They were very unsure about the enervating saxophone at the beginning before we found the correct sound. We decided early in the process that we should end the song with our very first guitar solo. That the solo sounds the way it does is a coincidence. The Arabic tones came out of nowhere. But it turned out well.

How do you find yourself in the music business? When you started out in music, did you know it would be like this?

When we formed "ASM" we knew exactly what we wanted. Our more than 40 years of experience meant that we had no unreasonable expectations. We own our record label. We know our place in the "food chain".

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

I (Anders) am a trained football coach and Thomas is an active artist and writer. So we would probably spend more time with that.

How do you know when a work is finished?

It can be truly difficult to take that decision. But when you feel that a song is taking too much time and you can't quite get it right, it always helps to take a step back and start peel away the layers.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

Football, art, literature.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

In music all emotions are represented. Joy and sorrow. Anger and love. Intimacy and alienation. Everything can be portrayed with music. Memories connected to music never fade.

Who is your favourite musician?

Robert Quine, Lou Reed, Stuart Moxham, Laleh, Moe Tucker, Robert Fripp, Brian Eno and many more.

What are your plans for the future?

In the beginning of March, our seventh album, "QUINT", will be released. We will make sure that as many people as possible discover it. But we have already composed most of the songs for our eighth album. We have so many albums left to bring to the world.
