Kamil) Hey The Confederation, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

The music kind of finds you I think :D Always been a music lover spanning many genres. The heart of our writing is music with soul, although for me any music that touches or has emotion is music with soul.

Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?

Inspired by those artists that create a 'feeling' with the music which is why i love the classic soul standards as well as artists such as Bowie, Prince, The Who, Goldfrapp, Amy Winehouse to name a few standout influences.

Your latest track is 'Razor Teeth'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

This new release, Razor Teeth is a story song about the power of feminine attraction, how beguiling it can be and it's ability to crush. The track was performed live by individual players, to a guide track. We wanted to keep it as authentically live as possible.

Which skills have you gained that help you perform effectively as a musician?

As a songwriter it is important to be able to listen and notice what is around you. Being able to have a really fruitful conversation with an open mind and always stay inquisitive. This brings your writing into focus.

What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?

I believe genres are like palettes. Music and songs, like humans are so much stronger when backgrounds and cultures become blended. Soul, jazz and blues are for me the root of all music so will always resonate with me.

Describe your creative process when you write new music.

I feel the key to good songs is not to labour over them too much. Short periods of creativity work best for me until I have the structure and groove in raw form. Then I like to get those parts recorded, loose and free. I think John Lennon once said anything that takes more than 8 weeks is just boring! I can really relate to that in music, capturing the energy is important.

What are your long term goals?

The Confederation will develop over time and incorporate any number of arrangements and line ups. The passion is to create interesting and creative art without the walls of genre.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

Music is passion, personified.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

We are now in a new golden age of music collaboration. Now we can find wonderfully creative individuals via online platforms and make something together without any constraint. Technology is accessible like never before to take music to it’s true level of creativity. The genres we know are really only gateways to interesting ideas.

What are your plans for the future?

Just to have fun and keep exploring music, wherever that takes us.
