Interview: Greg Bounce - People in Their Houses

While paying a visit to Lisbon to clear his mind during 2020’s troubled days, Greg Bounce became so enamoured with the Portuguese capital that he has been based in the city ever since. Although there’s little doubt that the one-time Cocoa Futures’ frontman’s new musical iteration has been hugely influenced by Lisbon’s easy vibes and fantastic creative scene, his musical contacts in the UK’s cultural nerve centres of London and Manchester have enabled him to record and release his captivating songs to the highest standards. Among the amiable artist’s many friends are the team at Manchester’s Low Four Studios, whose production and instrumental skills have suffused each of Greg’s recordings with characteristically good vibes.

What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?

Here’s three things that help me to move forward (1) Sheer doggedness (2) having some lovely music friends and (3) celebrating valentines day four times a year.

Who inspired you to make music?

Noel Gallagher.

Your latest track is ‘People In Their Houses’. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

The most unusual thing about the song feels like its topic. Remember when we were stuck in our damn houses for years? A big cluster-shit to think about.

It's a pretty wee tune built from a series of snapshots from the panny. When everything changed.

What is your creative process like?

It's like a marathon. But with a few 100 metre dashes within it.

Most of a song could take a few hours. Then take two more years to *almost* finish it. Then a blitz of changes at the end. So quite topsy-turvy!

What is the biggest decision you’ve had to make?

I made a decision to move to Lisbon recently. It's a fantastic place to live. Absolutely chock full of friend talent. 300 days of sweet-ass, rocking sunshine a year. You should visit.

What makes you different from others?

I'm no different from any other soppy schmuck.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Oi gente!!! Let's do this.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

Don’t you sort of feel that a lot of music is a bit more ‘background-y?’ And then a lot of music is like REALLY in your face?

I can’t really keep up to be honest.

What is the first thing you think of when you wake up?

Going for a wee

What are your plans for the future?

I’m releasing a song called ‘Thank U’.

It’s a real epic number you know. Strings and everything. Meaningful.

It’s produced by the wonderful Sam Jones. He’s sculpted this epic number from a little weird insty demo i made of an upside down dinosaur onesy in Lisbon. Can’t wait to put this one out.

I think I'll then pop these tunes into a lovely EP. Catch it soon.
