Interview: allie lune - all the things i would do

Allie Lune is a Spanish-Colombian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter whose poetic musings have a wholesome and youthful charm. She began writing music as a young teenager, experimenting with her self-taught guitar skills and exploring the world of putting together poetry and sound. Having developed her musical abilities since her days of writing soft songs in her bedroom in southern Spain, Allie’s heartfelt lyric writing and sweet, memorable melodies are nothing short of captivating. She aims to reach her listeners’ hearts through her music, encapsulating the hardships of becoming an adult but without taking herself or the world around her too seriously.

Kamil) Hey allie lune, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What first got you into music?

Thank you for having me! Growing up, art and music were always very important at home and I started taking violin lessons when I was 7. I think that's what initially fueled my passion for music.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I'd love to collaborate with someone like Conan Gray.

Your latest song is 'all the things i would do'. Can you tell us more about the making of it and if there were any unusual things happening during the process?

I wrote 'all the things i would do' in November 2019. Initially it started out as a songwriting exercise for my degree but the more I wrote the more I really liked it. The lyrics came to me quite quickly and the whole song came together easily.

‘All the things i would do’ is about being in the honeymoon stage of a relationship and I was experiencing all the emotions of that stage at the time, so writing the song was a very sweet and enjoyable process.

The recording happened in between lockdowns, so it took a lot longer than expected before it was finally finished, but other than that everything went well.

What are you focussing on right now?

I'm finishing my songwriting degree in May, so I'm quite focused on that at the moment. I'm also writing a lot, planning my next releases, and concentrating on further developing myself as an artist.

What is the biggest decision you’ve had to make?

Deciding what to do after I finish my degree has been the biggest decision I have made so far. Despite the fact that I have been writing music for years, it took me a long time to realise that music is my true passion. But now that I know, I'm working hard to achieve my goals and I'm excited to continue making music!

What is the biggest challenge of being an artist?

I think a big challenge a lot of artists (including myself) face is being too critical or self-demanding. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to always be perfect but art is not always perfect and there is beauty in that.

How do you structure your day?

I don't have a fixed schedule (although I really should) but I try to organise my day so that I am always doing something productive. I try to pick up my guitar every day and write, get all my work done as well as go to class, do exercise... Not every day is the same but I like to have those few things that I definitely get done.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I do a lot of crochet in my spare time, I find it very relaxing and I really enjoy making little stuffed animals or clothes. I also love reading and find that books really inspire me when it comes to my music. I am also quite a spiritual person, I'm very much into astrology and tarot.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

I love to sing in the shower! Lately I've been belting out the songs from the musical "Tick Tick Boom".

What are your plans for the future?

I have some more releases planned for the next few months! After that I'm planning to go into music full-time and keep writing and releasing music. Hopefully in the near future I'll be able to release an EP. I'm really excited for what the future has in store for my music!
