Interview: THE HYBRIS - Keep The Wolves Away

Formed in 2020, THE HYBRIS spent the next years writing and producing their debut album ‘Music, Vol. 1’, which was released in June 2022. It is a truly international project, the trio lives in Germany, France and the US and writes and produces their music remotely. “Keep The Wolves Away” is the next output of the group, released on Nov 18th, 2022. The song is about the effects of war on its victims in general, one of the most serious political crises of recent decades in particular, and the dangers it poses to the entire planet.

Hey THE HYBRIS, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. How has the time gone for you since our last interview?

We are doing well, we are very productive right now, working on new songs and a new video. It's fun at the moment.

What role does the artist have in society?

The role of every artist is to entertain, right?

Your latest track is 'Keep The Wolves Away'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

The song is a bit harder than most of our previous releases. We have been carrying this song idea around for a while and when we thought about doing a song about the current war in Eastern Europe, this song seemed to be a good fit. There were no unusual incidents, we followed our usual way of working remotely. Perhaps the most unusual thing was that we threw away a lot of song parts. The original song consisted of many different parts, almost prog-style. We gradually reduced that more and more.

Is the artistic life lonely? What do you do to counteract it?

No, not at all. There is a life besides being a musician and music itself brings people together. What is "lonely" for us as a band sometimes is the fact that we live in different countries and thus communicate almost exclusively digitally.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

Interests yes, but we are running out of time at some point. We have families, and on top of that we put most of the available time into our passion for music.

What is your dream project?

It's not going to happen, but I would love to be in the studio with a big producer like Rick Rubin and see what he does with us and our music.

What are your favourite or most inspirational places (in Cologne, Nice, L.A.)?

In Nice or L.A., the first thing that comes to mind is of course the beaches. Unfortunately, that's not an option in Cologne. Here, the first things that come to mind are some live clubs like the Gloria or the Luxor and a few bars.

What can we expect from THE HYBRIS in the near future?

More music! We are working on some more songs, our plan is to release the second album next year. And we have discovered our love for videos, which is a great additional way for us to tell the story of our heroes Ringo, Beanie and Malcolm.
