Kamil) Hey Moon and Aries, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. How has the time gone for you since our last interview?

Hi, Kamil, thanks so much for chatting with us again ! Crazy how fast this year went. And Tom and I spent 2022 writing a lot of new songs. And that was sort of unexpected, but we went with the momentum and energy, and wrote a 5 song EP (Paradise) and a 9 song album, Break the Matrix Trilogy. Also we made some new contacts, had some success with radio and DJ pools. It's been a great year!

How do you balance your time in the studio with other commitments such as a part-time job, family, admin?

Tom and I are all about balance lol So it's something we both desire to master. I guess, a big part of it all, is simplifying our lives where we can, and using our time wisely. Sometimes I write lyrics when I'm at work! Tom allows inspiration to hit him at any time too. We've just taken it all day by day. Doing it our way, making the music we want. We focus on making this enjoyable and this is how we stay in a good relationship with each other and our music.

Your latest release is 'Break The Matrix (Episode Two)'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

Codes and Circles, The Butterfly Effect and Rescued are a mix of trip hop, electro pop and synth pop that all follow the concept of existentialism and how you are truly at the center and the focal point of your reality. How the illusion of everything around you conspires to make your life a rollercoaster of obstacles and adventures, but the truth is, you are in the driver's seat.

Where did you get the inspiration for this EP?

Well, when Tom and I finished writing our EP, Paradise - which we released over the Summer, I think we were both surprised at how much inspiration we had left to instantly create a new 9 song concept album. Break the Matrix was inspired by our daily conversations about our lives and our philosophies. Just everything going on right now, the whole World feeling a bit upside down since 2020, we reflected a lot on how this reality really needs a massive upgrade. But to build the new, you must let go of the old. So specifically these songs Codes and Circles, The Butterfly Effect and Rescued, are all songs that have very deep and relevant meaning in both Tom and my daily lives. These are big topics we love to explore, so mine as well turn them into songs!

How long did you work on the 'Break The Matrix (Episode Two)'? Was it an easy process for you?

I'd say 1 song per month is our average, so probably 3 months. Tom and I talk about the concepts very thoroughly before he begins a ruff draft. When I hear his brilliant instrumentals for the first time, sometimes I instantly know what I'll do, sometimes I need to hear the song 100 times before I sink into it.

How do you know when a work is finished?

Tom and I rely on our Spidey senses quite often ! It's just that feeling that we will both have of "yes this is it." I'm always in love with his instrumentals, and I won't show Tom something from my end until I'm 99% sure I'm feeling it. And then Tom and I always feel the same about each song. It's actually really incredible!

Can you write what was your best performance in your career? How do you remember it?

Well, Tom and I haven't performed together yet! We haven't even met in person ! So these are all 2023 goals. Both of us have extensive performing experiences, but our best performances will be when we are on stage together.

How do you find yourself in the music business? When you started out in music, did you know it would be like this?

I think both Tom and I consider ourselves as life long musicians. It's something we've both been working towards since our youth ! But obviously other things in life come in and take us down a different path for a bit, but when Tom and I aligned, we knew we really had something together. And we take it all in stride. We do what we know to do : Make music. The industry part of it, that's been a huge learning experience. Lucky we have some great people in our corner and people like you who are supporting indie artists!

Who is your favourite musician?

Tom and I have many, and most of them we have in common as our ultimate favorites. Like ABBA, Bowie, Portishead, Massive Attack, Kate Bush, Depche Mode and The BeeGees.

What can we expect from Moon and Aries in the near future?

Episode 3! Out in February. All episodes have a slightly different vibe, and this one is very fun. Also, we are going to be performing live a lot this year. It's time for us to take our 23 songs on the road in 2023. We look forward to it all.
