Interview: Love Ghost - Homesick

Homesick is an emo, acoustic rock sound with a modern twist. The song is about one’s journey to find themselves. “Homesick” follows a string of single releases for Love Ghost praised by Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, FLAUNT, Alternative Press, and others. Love Ghost has recently toured Europe, where they played Rockpalast in Germany. In August they toured Mexico City playing shows at both Auditorio BB and Amazon’s Gamergy Festival which was broadcast to all of Latin America. They have done songs with artists around the world including Rico Nasty, Adan Cruz, Mabiland and Tankurt Manas.

Kamil) Hey Love Ghost, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. How has the time gone for you since our last interview?

Things have been both good and bad, lots of change for sure. But I think it's all progressing in the right direction. Been making music and I'm also expanding into other forms of self expression.

What role does the artist have in society?

The artist's role is to illuminate the genuine expression of our hearts. A true artist should understand love, sorrow, pain and joy. They should also be able to bring out the emotions of others and create a catharsis for the consumer. Another role of an artist is to shed light on hard/controversial truths. If you're talking about some real shit, then a lot of people will be confused and maybe even ridicule you for it in the beginning, but that just means you're doing something innovative.

Your latest track is 'Homesick'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

Yeah, there actually was a pretty heated argument in the studio as we were creating the song, but sometimes the best art comes from tension, so I think in the end it was a positive.

What’s your strongest memory of your childhood?

I watched a lot of movies as a kid, like a lot. My dad was a film collector, and I figured out how to use the DVD player at a very young age. I remember just plopping one disc after the next and watching movie after movie. That's a strong memory from my childhood that I also think is somewhat of both a unique and universal experience.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?

There's been too many to name. Embarrassment/humiliation is my least favorite feeling.

Is the artistic life lonely? What do you do to counteract it?

Yes, it is lonely. The world is lonely in general. I fight with my loneliness every day. I'm still learning to cope with it and honestly I don't have an answer on how to counteract loneliness. But I hope that one day the person reading this/relating to this figures it out for themselves. At the moment I just try to escape from and/or drown out my loneliness.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

Yes, I'm into reading and writing as well as skating.

What is your dream project?

I'd like to make an album where every song is undeniable and I even surprise myself.

What is your favourite or most inspirational place (in United States, Los Angeles)?

It's hard for a place to be inspiring. What's inspiring is the energy, and that inspirational energy can hit you anywhere. The location is irrelevant. Or at least that's how i see it.

What can we expect from Love Ghost in the near future?

We are dropping two E.P's in December and January and then we will drop an album next year.
