Interview: hangtime - BLOODSKY

hangtime is an artist who managed to concoct a winning sonic formula by allowing different styles to come together. There is no point in getting stuck with only an album & creative perspective; hangtime takes this lesson to heart. Their most recent studio release, Right2Repair, is a perfect combination of hip-hop and alternative music with experimental electronic sounds unfolding over the span of this 13 track release. These different styles might seem quite different from one another, but at the same time, it is quite amazing to understand that there is also a common ground between them, and hangtime’s music actually captures it to absolute perfection. Each track feels technically diverse, showcasing daring production ideas and unusual sounds.

Hello hangtime. What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?

Challenging our perspective…all the time. Stretch understanding. In that, comes the understanding that there are multiple correct answers.

Who helped you most in your musical journey?

All those who encouraged the journey; to go where we wanted to go. Teachers, givers of the way.

Your latest release is 'BLOODSKY'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

We released the Spawn Kill EP and the Walls EP earlier this year, circling the greater idea of the BLOODSKY. The darker, intimate feelings of the intense swirl in the head. Feelings of watching the world stop. The pain of the impending doom, and the will to scream back.

Can you shortly describe each of the tracks that are on the album?

Insert Coin: its getting hot in here, its getting scary, where are we going

Someone Else: slow, brooding, feelings of not being the right version of self

Planet party: its fucked up, we’re getting fucked up

CO$tUS: humanity may have prioritized the wrong shit

The Wolf: we let in the danger

Peter: I’ve lost myself along the way

My story: I’m scared to open up and be honest about my life

bloodsky interlude: yeesh the sky looks messed up

Unholye: I’m going mad, its true

Bird Box: I never feel safe

Börek: I still wouldn’t trade it for anything

Milky Ways: there are other worlds

How do you stay up-to-date with the latest musical trends?

Find youtube videos with low view counts, aka new stuff. See what pushes the sounds forward. There is more to listen to. Lots of inspiring stuff.

Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?

Nothing is intentionally hidden. Hope you hear your life, and can connect with something, once disconnected.

What’s an average day like for you?

Coffee, werk, play, oh shit i gotta drink some water, sleep.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans.

Light Saber duels.
