Interview: Giangee - Cherie Sammer

Giangee alias Gianluca Comploj is an Italian Dj based in South-Tyrol. Deep down in the mountains, the passion for House Music and percussions got him since early age. Giangee approached more Techno stuff after a one-year business trip into the heart of Germany. After this experience he routed back in South-Tyrol to hit the sickest venues in the area with his constantly growing record collection. It doesn’t matter if its jazzy House, Uk Garage or banging Techno; Giangee stands for quality music without compromises.

Kamil) Hey GIANGEE, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?

Well a great musician is a big word, let's just say that I try to stand out from the crowd by combining different genres, I am a great lover of jazz, blues and rock as well as electronic music. I try to combine all the genres that give me a strong energy creating a kind of fusion between acoustic samples and electronic beats.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

Music is everything! Any frequency that crosses our eardrum triggers memories, if this frequency is pleasant and is combined with a rhythm we have found the perfect alchemy.

Your latest track is 'Cherie Sammer'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

Cherie Sammer was one of the most spontaneous tracks ever recorded in my little bedroom/studio. I started writing the track by sampling funk and disco music and one day a great artist from my city,Raffaele Barberio, came to visit me. When he heard the flow, he picked up his guitar and started jamming, from there we recorded, live mixed and welcomed Cherie Sammer to the world.

When you are working through problems in your work, who do you talk to?

I ask the good Lord for help, when he doesn't answer I call some colleague or friend for moral support and for some advice. After the call, a bit of meditation I come up with some rustic solutions and continue with my work.

How do you know when a work is finished?

For an artist his track is never 100% finished, there is always something to improve. To answer your question Kamil, a track can be considered complete when the frequencies played and processed makes you jump out of the chair of the studio and makes you dance like there was no tomorrow ;)

How useful has social media been for you?

social networks are our new way to communicate and to be known, I'm trying more and more to increase my knowledge in this field in order to make known more and more my music and my passion.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

The music I usually compose can be described as a kind of improvisation, a bit like jazz but done in a different way. I simply try to convert my emotions and sensations into sound. basically liquid feelings that take shape and give me energy to continue.

What are your long term goals?

I only have one goal, to get the same passion and pleasure I feel when I make music to people.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

I don't sing, I hum a lot of songs in the shower, it always depends on what I've been listening to during the day. I can say that the song I sing most often is I feel good by James brown but I only do the scream at the beginning when the water is cold ;)

What are your plans for next year? Do you have any productions ready to be released?

for next year I hope to produce much more music and have much more time to do it, to collaborate and learn from many artists and feel their passion and skill in the studio! something is already in the oven for next year but I can not tell you more ... if I told you it would be like making love ... but with your own hand.
