Interview: Alessandra Boldrini - Never Going Back

Alessandra Boldrini, who was born in Italy, has always had a passion for music. She packed her things and traveled to the United Kingdom in 2016 to pursue a degree at the BIMM Institute, starry-eyed and eager to make her aspirations a reality. Since then, she's amassed over 500,000 streams across her tracks and established herself as one of Pop's most promising new artists. "Never Going Back" shimmers with delicate synthesizers, emphasized in brushes of echoed melodies and complemented by snappy plucking sounds that create a warm surge of charm and promise. Ale's vocal seems strong and ballad-esque, wrapped up in a pop-style flush, with layers of smooth sounds and a thumping dance beat.

Kamil) Hey Alessandra Boldrini, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?

Hey Kamil, thank you so so much for having me!! I think one of the strengths I'm most proud of is determination. I had some ups and downs these past couple of years, but no matter what, I've never stopped working hard towards my goal of being a full-time artist.

What first got you into music?

Definitely my family. I grew up in a musical family with my dad always playing the piano in my home's hallway and my mum singing upstairs. Also, my siblings used to play the piano! I think the environment helped a lot, and at one point, I started joining choirs and doing gigs and just found myself surrounded by music, which was awesome! Performing live really got me thinking about pursuing music as a career.

Your latest track is 'Never Going Back'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

"Never Going Back" comes from a personal experience, as all of my other songs! A couple of years ago, I had a really complicated situation with someone I considered really important to me. Once I got over everything, I wrote Never Going Back to remind myself how I shouldn't let people treat me. Nothing unusual, but that situation really got to me, and I'm happy to see how much progress I have made since then! I did learn my lessons, and I'm glad I got out from my chest everything I've written in the song!
Songwriting is a very powerful tool, and it really did help me to become more aware of my feelings and emotions. I think it's like a form of therapy, and it's beneficial to face, read and better understand what we have inside.

Who inspired you to make music?

There are many artists I look up to, and each of them inspired me in different ways. Some of my favourites are Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Sigala, Avicii, Clean Bandit, Italian band Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, RAYE .. I could go on and on for hours haha!

Have you ever participated in any music competitions? Did you win any prizes?

I did try to participate in many competitions during my teenage years and early 20s, both in Italy and UK. I never won or passed anything, so at one point, I kind of "gave up" the world of music competitions and started to focus on building my music career on my own.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

I really appreciate my fans as they always support me and my songs! My message to them would be to never give up on anything cause even if sometimes life's full of crap, there are lots of people ready to listen and help, sometimes more than we realise!!

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

At the moment, I can't think of anything I'd want to do rather than work on my music career! However, I've always liked people-focused jobs - I'm currently working in the hospitality industry at Caffe Nero, managing a coffee shop in central London. I love meeting new people, and the customers of my shop are like a second family to me.

Which famous musicians do you admire?

At the moment, I'm really into Dua Lipa and her work. I loved her Studio54 Virtual Concert and just thinking about all the work put behind. It's impressive, to say the least. She is really hardworking and so talented.

Do you have any weaknesses that you're actively working to improve on?

Oh yes, I'm always trying to improve everything, to be honest. I have plenty of weaknesses, but luckily, I think I am aware of them, and that's why I always do my best to improve. My worst is definitely being a perfectionist. It can be good at times, but in some cases, it doesn't allow me to move forward with my music as I always want everything to sound perfect!

What are your plans for next year? Do you have any productions ready to be released?

I've been thinking about an EP, and surely I'll be telling more in the upcoming months. For now, a new release is coming on the first week of February 2022, and a couple of cool projects are in progress behind the scenes... I'll be sharing some more insights during the following weeks on my IG, so make sure to stay tuned if you want to know more!! :)
