Interview: Rauly - Lost It

“Lost It” is Rauly’s latest single, a perpetual forward motion song that has a playful thump and a certain melancholy that’s tagged along. It has a meaningful ingredient of truthfulness about how loss is camouflaged and concealed under the theater of everyday changing life. The song starts with a crisp sounding drum loop that’s refreshing and energetic. A bass line that’s reminiscent of an 00’s alternative rock song. Shoegaze electric guitar that glides in interlocking all the instruments as Rauly comes in singing “What’s it cost/ What’s the price…To replace this heart of mine”.. The song then tumbles down into more warm tones and spacious atmospheric ambiance. Arpeggiated guitar fills that fill in the empty spaces easing the tension between the musical ensemble. The song is rich with little details making the complete arrangement alive.

Hello Rauly. What made you want to become a musician?

I started playing guitar at around 8 years old and I think it was a mix of just loving music and my dad being able to teach me cause he plays too.

Who helped you most in your musical journey?

It’s hard to choose just one person. Really anyone who’s supported me has helped me the most. My family and friends, my producers, and all of the people that listen to my music and support me are what keep me going.

Your latest release is 'Lost It'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

I actually made this song on TikTok live with my producer and friend Busco. I told him I wanted to make something upbeat and we produced it out in one night.

What social issues are you most passionate about?

I’m passionate about a lot of social issues. I think it’s very important for our society to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities and rights in our legal system and economy. To me, I think anything that challenges these rights is something worth changing.

How do you stay up-to-date with the latest musical trends?

I listen to a lot of new music and follow a lot of blogs, magazines, and music accounts on social media, but I try not to stay too involved with trends and make the music I want to make that comes from inside me.

Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?

My music is pretty straightforward and it’s intentional. I want everyone to be able to understand my message, young and old. I think it makes my music accessible to the largest number of people and allows for anyone to connect with it.

What’s an average day like for you?

Honestly, my days are pretty different, but every day I work on music, content creating, and marketing ideas, I try to get moving every day by going to the gym or doing some sort of physical activity, and I usually go out to some sort of show, club, or party at least a couple nights a week.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans.

I respond to every single fan that reaches out. I love getting messages and it means a lot that someone took the time to let me know that they connected with my music. I interact genuinely and always love to talk to fans!

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Work on yourself every day. Whether it’s writing a song, working on your craft, or just physically and mentally working on yourself. If you make small improvements every day it leads to large improvements over time.

What are your plans for the future?

I plan on making and releasing a lot of music and playing as many shows as possible.
