Interview: Clare Easdown - Wrap Me Up

Hailing from Sydney, Australia by the deep blue, Clare Easdown perceived music like the generous expanse of the sea. Creating a complex response with electronic music, she delves into the depths of her love for melody. 'Wrap Me Up' is a cry out for love, a cry out to be held and to be wrapped up in beautiful, comfortable bliss. It's full of suspense as Clare is pouring out her soul in this track. She wants the listener to feel her longing in each and every lyric, taking the listener on a journey through her inner world, thoughts and feelings.

Kamil) Hey Clare Easdown, super nice to have the chance to chat with you. This is the third time I'm interviewing you. How would you summarize the last several months?

Hey there! Thank you so much for having me. Yes, it is the third time being interviewed by you and it's always such a pleasure. The last several months I've been completely immersing myself in music making. Everyday I buckle down and create. It's been a full on last few months!

Who helped you most in your musical journey?

The person who I feel has helped me most on my musical journey would be my father. He would vigilantly take me every single week for private Cello lessons when i was growing up. Then we'd practice and practice during the week at home. He'd play the piano and accompany me on the Cello. We'd work on everything that was learned in that weekly Cello lesson and try our best to master the craft. I feel my classical training has prepped me for the music I create now.

Your latest release is 'Wrap Me Up'. Can you share with us the background of its creation and did any unusual things happen during its creation?

'Wrap Me Up' is a song about wanting to be enveloped whole by the one that you love. It's all about self-expression and feeling love deeply. I wanted this track to feel incredibly personal and take the listener on a journey. Unusual things happening at the time of the creation of 'Wrap Me Up' would have been harmonising with my own voice. In my past tracks I haven't harmonised or created another layer on my main vocal. However, in 'Wrap Me Up' I've given creating another layer of vocal harmonies a shot and I think the overall sound is a lot richer.

What do you feel is the best song that you have ever released and why?

The best song I feel I have ever released would have to be "I'll Wait" as it really came from my heart. It's a love song with glitters of insanity throughout. It's about waiting for someone you adore to contact you. It's a song that screams "I'll Wait" even if that person never decides to contact you ever again. I love being authentic in my music creations and expressing exactly how I'm feeling at that particular moment in time.

How do you stay up-to-date with the latest musical trends?

Honestly I don't feel I really place a lot of emphasis on keeping up-to-date with musical trends. When creating my music, I simply just try and be as authentic, real, honest and open as possible. I feel trends will always come and go, however if you're authentic that's something that will remain timeless.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

If I could change anything about the industry it would probably be placing an emphasis on creating music with anything you have. I don't believe it's essential to produce music with only the most 'high tech' and 'expensive' equipment. Up until now, I've produced all my tracks using my Apple headphones as my microphone. Many producers would probably cringe at this notion! However, I've done this for two main reasons. One, I'm poor and can't afford an expensive microphone at the moment, and two, I feel if i produce music with what I have lying around it may help others who are also in my position who also want to produce music feel free and confident to do so. I believe creativity should never rest on how much money you have in the bank. Creativity is deeper than that.

Do you have a mentor or coach?

I don't have a mentor or coach at the moment. This is something I may look into in the future though. However, as money is super tight at the moment I think I'll just battle it out alone.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans.

I love interacting with people when they leave comments or express that my music has touched them in some way. I always try and respond quickly and show gratitude for them taking the time to express how they feel. It always feels really great when I hear that a song of mine has had an impact on the people around me.

What’s an average day like for you?

An average day for me would be tending to my two children's needs. Fixing them breakfast and off to their schools. Then I buckle down and get into music production for the rest of the day. I love creating music. It's been my lifeline throughout many situations. I then pick up the kids and follow my daily routine with them. Once they are peacefully asleep I hop back into the zone (in my lounge room) and belt out more tracks!

What can I wish you regarding your career and private life?

A wish that I have for my musical career and private life would be for the two to blend seamlessly. I want to meet more like minded creatives in my area and in life in general. I'd love to eventually meet a special someone who also has a deep passion for music creation and hopefully bounce ideas of that person! It's sometimes hard working in a vacuum so having a significant other to vibe with would be incredible. It's been such a pleasure answering these interview questions! Thank you so much for having me.
