Interview : In Search Of - Alice and the Wonderland

Step behind the curtain and join us on a creative journey like never before. In Search Of, the incredible father-daughter duo take us on a musical journey into whimsical world of the famous “Alice In Wonderland.” In this exclusive interview, we have the privilege of delving into the creative minds of the father-daughter duo who have ingeniously fused literature and music to craft an album called “Alice and the Wonderland” that breathes new life into Lewis Carroll's iconic tale.

You have created an album based on an adventure novel “Alice In Wonderland”. How did this idea come about? What inspired you to create a novel themed album?

The idea of Alice And The Wonderland came about because of our mutual love of music and novels. What inspired this project was how eccentric and imaginative Alice in Wonderland is as a whole. It gave us a lot of freedom to work with all kinds of characters and music directions.

Being creators, we connected with the Mad Hatter’s wacky character, and just like Alice, we had to fall down the rabbit hole to truly find ourselves.

Alice's journey through Wonderland is filled with surreal and magical moments. How did you translate these fantastical elements into your music? Were there any particular instruments, sounds, or production techniques that helped capture the whimsy and otherworldly nature of the story?

Because we chose Alice, it didn’t restrain us from being in one musical genre, we were able to combine many genres, therefore using many different sounds to narrate the story.

We compiled sounds that would not normally be seen in this genre of music, from a banjo at the end of Tea Party to expresses a little bit of the craziness, to the hard rock guitars used to emphasize the harshness of the situations that Alice finds herself in (finding the Vorpal Sword and storyline of Ambush.)

Could you share some insights into your approach to translating the themes of the novel into the lyrics of the album? How did you ensure that the songs captured the essence of the story while adding your own artistic touch?

Each chapter in the book tells progressively the story of Alice In Wonderland. Basically, the lyrics of the songs are from Alice’s point of view, each point correlating to each chapter in the book. This was Alice’s time to tell her side of the story!

What was your favorite aspect of working on this album? Were there any particular moments during the recording or songwriting process that stood out to you as particularly memorable or special?

Our favorite part was being able to work together on this! Being a father, daughter duo is very special and something we will always have as a special memory. A special memory was one day after midnight, my dad come up with the melody to the song Alice, so we ran into the studio in the middle of the night and recorded it immediately... :-)

Are there any musical influences that shaped the sound of “Alice and the Wonderland?”

Our musical influences for this project range from Musical Theater shows like Jagged Little Pill, Jesus Christ Superstar and pop-rock / art rock in general. Bands such as The Killers and a classic rock touch like Jethro Tull.

Alice in Wonderland has captivated readers for generations. How do you hope your musical interpretation of the story will connect with listeners? What emotions or experiences do you aim to evoke in your audience through this album?

We hope this album takes listeners on a magical journey. There are so many different characters so we hope that gives more of an opportunity for people to connect. Alice is a dreamer; she is determined and strong willed. We hope listeners can be inspired by her character to tackle anything that comes their way! We hope that this album will take fans back in time to there childhood days, when to dream was a fun experience!

If you could invite any artist, living or deceased, to collaborate on a track from the album, who would it be and why? How do you imagine their unique style or musicality would enhance the overall sound and concept of the song?

It would be unreal if Freddy Mercury were able to collaborate with us on a track on this album. Freddy’s impeccable theatrical sound, lyrics, voice, and overall artistry, would take it to another planet.

Given the imaginative theme of the album, let us also dive into an imaginative question. In Alice in Wonderland, Alice encounters a range of eccentric and memorable characters. If you could choose one character from the novel to collaborate with musically, who would it be and why? Could their personality or traits inspire the direction of the music?

Mad Hatter of course!! His kooky and unpredictable personality just fits so perfectly for this type of album. Working with Mad Hatter would open many possibilities into ridiculous riddles in the lyrics which would resulted in even greater musical freedom!!!
