Polsky’s “Executive Functions” Is Experimental and Majestic With Its Soundscapes!

PolSky is a unique band with their artistic vision and craft of genre-bending and mind-numbingly infectious masterpieces. Structuring themselves as a corporation this musical outfit brings an augmented reality project that is wonderfully immersive with their songs. With evident influences from indie pop, rock and electro their latest album ”Executive Functions” released on the 13th of July 2023, is a true plat du jour. Just under 45 minutes long this album is not just a grouping of melodies but a meticulously crafted musical experience.

Opening on “Welcome to Pol-Sky Corp”, this twenty-two second sound-byte is not a song as much as it is an invaluable piece of world-building that serves to immerse and settle you into the music you are about to experience. Leading explosively into “Switchboard Operator”, this song is classic rock with a funky groove this song is a dancefloor bop that has an urgent message. Serving as the first “real” introduction to PolSky’s musical sound, this piece of music serves its purpose perfectly and cushions you for the next track. “Rounds” is a song that has an infectious groove and slowly transitions you into a more dreamy mood with its vibrant sound. “100 Million Ways To Die”, is another banger with its ethereal guitar chords and high-octane energy. This song also effortlessly bridges genres with its uptempo edgy sound. “Culture”  is a song that is filled with infectious riffs and carries the same edge as the previous entry “100 Million Ways To Die”. The next song “Song for the Silver Surfer” turns down the tempo to turn up the soul, and is a wonderful breath of air between the intricate anthemic tapestries of sound. “Apopalypse Now - (Ode To Cracky)” is another one of those standouts with it being a forty-seven-second guitar riff at its core. “In Love at the Cinema” is an innovative ballad, and “Halycon Daze” is a wonderful song with a disco vibe to it. “Cupboard Love” and “Nimbus Cumulus” are rich and opulent in their arrangements. Carrying refreshing ska influences “Rainbow Road” closes this experience out.

Each song on “Executive Functions” is meticulously crafted and a true show of force of what PolSky is capable of. Every track snaps into each other like a well-oiled gearbox making for a truly elevated listening journey from start to finish. PolSky are virtuosos who should never stop making music because everything they touch is pure gold. I loved every second of “Executive Functions” so go check it out today!
