BEY 倍 Brings A Ethereal Vibe With Their Album “Gamma is a Gamma stems From Gamma”

China-based artist BEY 倍 released their latest album “Gamma is a Gamma stems from Gamma” recently on the 2nd of June, 2023. The album is dripping with a transcendent auditory landscape that will take you on a journey over its 28-and-a-half-minute runtime. Blending various styles and genres, BEY 倍 has crafted a true delight of a musical listening experience with 9 songs that stand distinct in their personality.

From the opening second of “Shadow, Sculpture” the album has an almost cyberpunk aesthetic to it, with heavy synths and a masterfully crafted beat. Opening on siren-like horns, the song quickly switches gears and takes on a warmer melody that cushions softly for the next track “Heart Addict”. “Heart Addict” switches up the vibe with sultry vocals and an almost industrial-sounding beat backing it up and features some futuristic synth melodies. The next song “太阳能” continues this theme with atmospheric melodies that simply refuse to leave your head. “Mayor of The City” is the standout track on this album as it brings a whimsical sound and is easily the most experimental track on this album, but manages to fit in well with the vibe the album is going for. “思无邪” whose title roughly translates to “thinking innocent” carries a warmer tone with brighter vocals and a breezy soundscape. “接触” masterfully builds a musical ambience and the instrumentation in this piece is moody and emotive. “困惑”  whose title roughly translates to “puzzled” further the ambience of this album with synths and beats that build a relentless anticipation in you as a listener all of which are juxtaposed against emotive singing. Closing out the album are the tracks “Been Easy” and “I Forget” both of which take cues from the opening and close out the album in a feeling akin to having a soft landing on a flight you are taking.

The production of the instrumentation of “Gamma is a Gamma stems from Gamma” is very hard to critique as BEY 倍  simply nails it. Every one of their songs carries a unique and charming beat that all fits under the same umbrella of the tech-pop theme this album is conveying. If I had to pick one point of contention it would be in the mix of the album, as on certain tracks the vocals get muddy and hard to distinguish from the background, but this doesn't detract from the immersion the music provides. As a whole, the album is a well-crafted piece of art that flows naturally like a perfectly designed conveyer belt and is a unique auditory experience that is worth checking out!
