Ubiquity Machine’s “Beautiful Girl”: An Alternative Rock Fusion of Modernity and Nostalgia

If you haven’t already checked out Ubiquity Machine then you ought to. This two-piece Alternative/Indie Rock outfit based out of Washington DC writes timely, poignant and wonderfully melodic tracks and their latest single “Beautiful Girl” is no different.

Blending a cool bassline, funky guitars and excellent leads on keys “Beautiful Girl” is a song in a style you’d think you'd heard before but is outstandingly unique in its techniques and flourishes. A love song not quite like anything you've ever heard before the song deals with motifs of love, change and redemption and even loneliness.

The most striking and my favourite element of this song has to be its songwriting. Diving deep and exploring ideas of love, the lyrics of this song hold up a mirror to their subject and explore how much being in love tells you about the person in love as it does about the beloved. Sprinkled in throughout the song are themes of the divine as well with love and knowledge talked about as gifts from God while loneliness is a curse from the devil. Conquering loneliness being a major expression in this track has been allegorised to being the same as overcoming the devil.

The song is also masterfully produced with the instruments being powerful and carrying a heavy presence in the mix without overshadowing the vocals which are clear and heartfelt.

Dan Marsh (the Rabbit) and Howard Rabach are a wickedly talented duo and we can’t wait to see what post-genre masterpieces they put out next! But for now, do yourself a favour and add “Beautiful Girl” to your playlists!
