Interview-Nick Marks on his latest single Ride the Dragon, remixed by producer Horatio Luna

Nick Marks and Horatio Luna have a collaboration out with some beautiful interceptions. It is a jazztronica single that uses the essence and magic of two genres that are parallels. From a producer and performer, you hear a magical single called Ride the Dragon-Horatio Luna Remix.

There are plenty of layers to enjoy, so listen to the song here with us on LITM and check out the interview below:

Your track has the perfect infusion of relatable grooves and jazz tunes that keep it exciting. What did you feel about this remix?

I think Horatio nailed the vibe. He's flipped cinematic jazztronica into a deep jazzy-house beat. I knew he would be the perfect producer for this and he delivered 10/10.

The original was the closing number of your EP, Cinematic Chromatics Vol. 1. How did this composition come about as a single being released?

It was Horatio's vision. This is the first time I've had a track flipped like this. I gave him free reign to choose whichever track he wanted, and he unequivocally felt this was the one

There is this muted aura that surrounds the whole mix, to keep your ears on the groove. Are you pleased with this result?

Horatio has a sound and vibe that is all his own, and he brings that to this cut. He's a one of one, yes I'm pleased.

Will this collaboration with Horatio Luna lead to something new and exciting? Perhaps another single?

There's always the possiblity of fresh future collabs, notwithstanding the physical distance between us (Melbourne - New York City)

What is your stand in the amalgam of such genres? These seem to be worlds apart, yet marry in such exciting nature.

Music is music. That may sound a little cliché, but I don't really think in terms of genre. The materials that make a track are so malleable. Things can go in any direction. When you're playing live, you have that freedom to go to new places. When you're recording, you have to make decisions and stick to them. So this is an opportunity to have fresh ears on a set of elements and give them new life. Genre for me is just a convenient way of organizing stylistic elements so we can have a common understanding of what something is.

What can we expect next from the calibre of artists like Nick Marks and Horatio Luna?Collaboratively, we'll see what happens. Individually, I know Horatio is busy touring and recording his next output. For me, I've got a slate of new releases coming out in 2024, starting in February with my next single which will be part of an EP, Cinematic Chromatics Vol. II. There will also be a Vol. III scheduled for later in the year. Stay tuned!
