Lewis) QuestionWhat inspired you to write ‘Emerald Valley’?

Athlymn) I spend a lot of time outdoors in Barcelona running by the beach and up in the mountains. I really tried to encompass this energy of the summer and my surroundings into the release. I also, when possible, do my best to experience the city’s nightlife – there is a great music scene here, which brings some of the best artists to town and this gives me great insight, encouraging me to push further and improve with every release

How do you go about writing your music?

I don’t stick to a particular script as such – I may start with the drums or a catchy synth line and build from there. I like to approach making music in a playful state of mind, which I believe inspires creativity. I try to create and locate unique and somewhat hypnotic sounds to set a certain mood or feeling. Usually the mix-down is a lengthy process for me as I spend a lot of time perfecting each individual sound. ‘Emerald Valley’ is the first release I have self-mastered, which was definitely a challenge.

What is your proudest career achievement?

I was fortunate enough to play a New Year’s Day event in London on the same bill as some of my all-time heroes, Simian Mobile Disco and Groove Armada, which really opened my eyes to what is possible musically.

If you could curate a festival, who would the three headliners be?

Aphex Twin, Nicolas Jaar and Metronomy. Although I absolutely know that is never going to happen, ha ha.

What else are you listening to right now?

Some tracks I’m listening at the moment include:

‘12H.5’ by Donato Dozzy; Venial Excavate by Yris Den; ‘Rosa’ by Leif; ‘Always NV’ by Loop LF; ‘Duistre Kamers’ by De Ambassade.s
