New Pine Overcoat by hovercraft Captures the Messy yet Beautiful Experience of Being Young!

Starting off with gentle guitar strumming, ‘New Pine Overcoat’ by hovercraft will make you feel like you are sitting around a fire on a chilly autumn night.

The song lies along the lines of indie soft rock and alternative rock – a sound that is very much in trend at the moment. The instrumentation has a simple, uncomplicated, unrushed flow to it – making use of layered electric and acoustic guitars and a steady drumming pattern – which brilliantly grounds the track. It never builds unexpectedly, and moves upwards and remains fairly consistent in its pace. There is an echo-like touch polished all over the song, and it is mostly noticeable in the vocals. The song might make you think of Mazzy Star if we are going retro and might make you think of artists like Clairo and Phoebe Bridgers.

The vocals are unhurried and relaxed, making you picture yourself driving down the road with the top of the car, in slow motion. The lyrics capture the mindspace of youngsters, who have one foot here and another foot there – being of everywhere and nowhere at the same time – as they find a place for themselves. The songwriting is pretty immaculate, as they do a great job in capturing the beauty and the disaster that comes with being young and free with the whole world hovering at the horizon.

It is simply hard not to absolutely fall in love with this song, with the amazing job it does in capturing the messy and grand experience of being young, both lyrically and musically.
