M4TR’s REIMAGINATION: THE REMIXES, VOL. 1 is a bold and delicious electronic dance remix project, capturing an aesthetic that fits a retro-futuristic vibe. It blends two unique soundscapes: a wide, encompassing palette of synth strokes and glassy vocals, adding a layer of whimsy that many albums these days forgo. The mix doesn’t overshadow the lyrical quality of the originals; it maintains powerful moments without compromising on fun, adding a solid danceability to the collection.
M4TR, also known as Music 4 The Revolution, is a project from AJ Solaris, a synth-pop, nu-disco, and funk artist. This album features the work of producers Philip Larsen and Mr Mig Ibiza.
1. Coup de Grace – Philip Larsen Albatross Remix
The track opener starts strong with soft-pounding, blocky synths, smooth vocal layers, and retro vibes. The bassline has a viscosity that gives the track a slight "gloopy" movement, gelling the overhead layers smoothly and settling into the cracks, while a floaty layer of synths sandwiches the vocals with silky timbres and feathery touches.
2. The Spektre – Philip Larsen Do Or Die Remix
The synths take a different shape in this track, with a more wiry, distorted feel, while the brass additions provide a certain woody texture. The arrangement maintains an upbeat and playful tone while supporting the peppy structure of the track.
3. Kill The Self – Philip Larsen Mad Dogs Remix
A gripping track where swirly layers of synths morph into different shapes to fill the sonic landscape, while the vocals take center stage with a punchy cadence. Visually, it feels as if a trail of synth fibers follows the singer’s direction as the song builds.
4. Hooks – Mr Mig Ibiza Remix
‘Hooks’ immediately pulls the listener in, not just with its enthralling, clever lyrics, but with an incredibly infectious, danceable beat. The guitar "hook" brings a vivid splash of colour and charisma to the track. The catchiness works well with the whimsical visuals, where the singer is reimagined as a "fish in the sea" being reeled in.
5. Life Without Her – Philip Larsen Alchemy Remix
A bit more low-key compared to the other tracks, this remix still maintains a foot-tapping element but uses a softer mix on the vocals. This gives the arrangement a far-away feel, allowing the music to "slow-zoom" toward the listener rather than diving in. Creativity is never in short supply, with ever-changing sound shapes and freckly synth notes making waves at every turn.
Overall, the album satisfies the brief of being extremely upbeat and entertaining while refusing to compromise on quality or experimentation. Listen here-
