1. Tey De Gennaro - Lovely Seasons of Love

‘Lovely Seasons of Love’ by Tey De Gennaro is a bright, sentimental piano-led ballad that takes on themes of resilience in life and love. Heartening and warm, the song’s lyric, strings and soundscape highlight the slow but building changes our narrator seems to be experiencing, soft and a bit tender.

The song feels wholesome yet vulnerable, seemingly urging the listener to take on the optimistic and “....lovely seasons of love….”. From telling “...a story of a world that hurt….”, to carrying on in the lovely season of love, every line seems to reflect the narrator’s quiet optimism and everglowing spark for life. Vulnerable but bright, like candle light.

2. Saint Nick the Lesser - 21 Minutes

‘21 Minutes’ by Saint Nick The Lesser is a powerful, vulnerable and optimistic account of a suicide attempt that turned into quiet realisations. Our narrator takes us through two different points of view in their lines, while the song’s guitar-led instrumental highlights the jarring mood with bright juxtaposition.

The lines and instrumental come from somewhere bright and hopeful, meaning to inspire awareness and to say that “...you won’t always feel this way…”. Our narrator seems to move from a sense of being “...done with everything….” to seeing that “...the scars on my wrist (are) reminders that I was always enough…”.

3. Courtesy Car - Emergency in a Sushi All You Can Eat

‘Emergency in a Sushi All You Can Eat’ by Courtesy Car takes on a dark, almost brooding and dynamic tone while our narrator seems to go through a thought-spiral. The song’s cascading guitars feel like a haunting pull, all while drawing the listener into an unsettling groove.

“...Does it even matter to you?...” is a refrain that sounds like a frustrated refrain, one that captures this mood of isolation and loneliness within a dynamic, ever-whirling spiral. The instrumentation seems to capture something cascading, unsettling, groovy and detached, while the lyrics seems to put a mirror in front of the listener almost, asking them if they care at all.

4. Wattmore - I Don’t Miss That Woman

‘I Don’t Miss That Woman’ by Wattmore is a bright, groovy track laden with  a sprinkle of attitude. Our narrator reacts to heartbreak and heartache, while the song’s instrumentation take on a quick-paced groove to jaunt to. It sounds  like a clap-back dressed in a folk rock song.

The lines tell the story of our narrator being spurned by a woman, heartbroken and seemingly using the song to pick up the pieces in an almost playful way. “...I don’t miss that woman…I’m never going back and she can’t make me…”. Bright banjos and fiddles seem to take on this mood in stride, keeping the listener engaged while our narrator moves through spirals.

5. Swamp Music Players - Hear It On CN2

‘Hear It On CN2’ by Swamp Music Players uses expansive, cascading guitar melodies to highlight a soundscape that feels heavy-footed and in free-fall. It captures the mood of “...living through the haze…”, while straddling a line that feels dispassionate but energised. This immersive track sets the scene, creating a mood that feels lived in and full of life. Its subdued pull takes on the mood of a scene establishing soundscape that pulls the listener  in and keeps them engaged.

There’s a pull and tug that only seems to intensify as the song goes on, dynamic and engaging. It sounds like the perfect track for a mood-setting scene in a film.
